Hi Warriors,

I am doing keyword research for an Adsense-based information site. There are a couple of things I don't understand about those contextual ads.

How does Google choose which ad to display on your website? I know it's contextual, but we can't know which keyword for sure, can we?

Consider I am making a website around "getting your ex back" thing. As you know there are a million keywords about this. Let's say there are only 7 keywords: A, B, C, D, E, F and G.

If I optimize my page for the keyword "A", will my website be displaying ads that were made for A only? Or will it display a mixture of all "get ex back" keywords because it's contextual?

As you know Adwords interface shows an advertiser how many clicks on average he will be getting. I assume that is for the Google search ads only, and not ads that are published by 3rd party websites?

I'm sorry if I couldn't explain my points... but to make my mind clearer can someone answer this question at the very least:

- There is a certain keyword that gets 4000 searches/month. It also shows 1 click per day in Adwords... now consider that I made a website around this keyword that is in the first spot and gets 3000 traffic/month, and 100 visits per day.

What ads will my site be showing? Which keywords? Help me please Warriors, I am really confused in this...

    You can't have full control over what ads get displayed on your site or for which keywords.

    However, you can gain some control by using "section targeting".

    This allows you to tell google which parts of your site to base ads off of.

    If you use this code around the specific keywords you are targeting, you are more likely to display ads based on those keywords.

    Here is the code:
    <!-- google_ad_section_start -->

    <!-- google_ad_section_end -->

    There are other factors as well. If your traffic doesnt convert for the advertiser in time you will be given lower CPC ads or eventually even have your account closed.

    What is said above about section targeting is good advice, just try to use the keywords you want, without crazy MFA style stuffing, and you should do fine.

    Also note that they may be displaying slightly off ads but it could be because some moron has set up a crazy high budget and they want the %age from these so these clicks, while not laser targeted, may actually be earning you more per click.

      Hi Talinn,

      You have no direct control over the ads that are displayed, as you say they are contextual.

      If the wrong ads show up on your site then that is down to your content and not Google.

      In every instance I have come across upping the keyword density solves the problem.

      As an example if you have a blog on celebrities with 12 posts on different people then how the hell is Google meant to know what your site is about?

    The adsense system Google use's is very intelligent. They actually target on your visitors browsing history. So for example 10 mins before a visitor comes on your site, and they search for chiptuning, they might see an advertisement about chiptuning on your website and, that means your visitors are targeted very often.

    The concept of making an adsense site is a worthwhile endeavor if part of the plan involves making a site people love. The reason is financial as well. When you make a site that is viral or social or interactive, people keep coming back and clicking on the ads.
