Hi,

ok so I have a game plan for building some review sites. The problem is I just built one and the terms I targeted are nowhere to be found. Im sick of building sites and having them not rank for keywords that I thought I could rank for. It seems to be such a crap shot as I rank for say 30% of the terms I target.

So im putting an end to this. I want to learn what are the things I need to look for in my competition.

I downloaded and installed the SEO firefox tool. But the problem with the tool is for half the sites I try to analayze I just get a " - " display for data. It leaves me in the dark. So here's what I figure is important:

- If the keyword is in the title or domain url

- The age of the domains on the first page

- How many backlinks the domains have on the first page

- How many of these backlinks are .edu or .gov for the sites on the first page

- The anchor text used in for the backlinks for the sites im trying to beat

- The Pr of the sites on the first page

- Exact competetion results in google under say 20,000

What else are important things to look for? Also what is a free good tool that truly shows all the backlinks to sites that is quick to use? Thanks

There are important things to consider in competition: Its better to know the weakness of your site, analyze your competitor site and try to do your best to overcome your competitors way of SEO.

    - Followed vs. No-Followed links
    - Social Media influence, followers, tweets vs. retweets
    - Quality of Links: Wikipedia? DMOZ?, other top level domains, linking root domains vs. pages
    - Unique C-Block Linking!

    Hope this helps.

It just seems like so much. Is there a surefire way to tell what sites you can beat and which ones you cannot? I need a tool that can do all of this. Otherwise im stuck checking the backlinks of each site manually and it can take like 30 mins just to anaylize page one of a "potential keyword" I could rank for.

Good post...it's always good to look at your competitors.

It's never easy to figure out exactly where you will rank, but if you can get your keywords in your URL that goes a long way, especially if your competitors don't have them.

The best way to really get a "feel" for this is to practice. Once you've tried to grow 2 or 3 sites, it becomes somewhat second nature.
