First,

if you haven't done already, please read this posting

by a fellow Warrior - it well help you tremendously!

I knew about this principle for a while already - but you really need to realize the potential of this! It is in fact NOT DIFFICULT to make a site which will gain crazy Google positions for keywords and niches you would have never dreamed of!

Example:

Go to google and enter "weight loss". You will see there is a site (too bad it's not mine) weightlosshelpandtips.net

If you check the site and his backlinks, it is very obvious that the person who owns the site started out targeting the keyword "weight loss tips"..his whole site is made about this subject and his backlinks and anchor texts seem to confirm this too.

What that site owner (probably) did not realize at first when he chose that keyword and the site - that the keyword "weight loss tips" is *highly* relevant to the main keyword "weight loss" <---

You can check this by entering "weight loss" in Google and at the bottom see the related keywords, "weight loss tips" is one of them.

I myself have a similar site targeting another "related" keyword...which now surprisingly starts to rank for the main keyword above it pretty well!!

Why is this?

Because you just discovered the secret how to make an authority site which might be on the way to totally dominate Google for some insane competitive keywords!

We are not even interested in "competition" and all that nonsense (i like Market Samurai and the helpful numbers it gives too)...but observations and obtainable results sometimes defy any logic! Simply ignore the scary numbers of competing sites and go ahead - you might be surprised.

* Target three words keywords which are RELATED to a main keyword!

Weight Loss ====> Weight Loss Tips -> Weight Loss Plans etc..etc..

Especially if its three words phrases, usually way easier to rank for such sub keywords than going for "weight loss" <-- especially since you dont even need to target "weight loss". The sub keywords already do the trick!

Make your site having categories and articles covering some (or all) of the highly related keywords - and Google will automatically see you as an authority for the main keyword.

Say to yourself:

A site visitors who is interested in [MAIN KEYWORD] is certainly interested in [SUB KEYWORD].

In Google's eyes, a site visitor who is interested in "weight loss" information certainly gets relevant information on a site about "weight loss tips". It cannot get more relevant and targeted than that!

In your SEO and backlinking (links)...indeed have a priority on having most anchor links having the related SUB KEYWORD - and only (approx. guess) 30% or so of the link texts actually containing the MAIN keyword.

Not only will it be much easier and faster to rank for those related keywords (lower competition) - at the same time you WILL also rank for the main keyword which otherwise would look almost impossible to go for. Because you are making an authority site which contains everything relevant in Google eyes for the main keyword!

The interesting thing about that strategy is that you really do not focus on the main keyword. You dont do it the old fashioned way going crazy only with the main keyword - because Google will do this for you and will know what keyword (one layer above your related sub-keywords) to assign to your site. At least that's what i observe.

This works!
