So I've dug deep into the Abs niche and found all the keywords I can find that I can win.

BUT I know you guys have to have some tips to find more keywords.

Right now I just keep on getting the same old keywords in my research.

How can I dig deeper?

If you take the keywords you already have and start searching for those keywords. It should help bring up a few more. Also using a few different keyword tools will help.

      Thanks.

I'm using Niche Finder at the moment.

It's helped me dig deep into the longtail of what I have.

I guess what I'm looking to figure out is how to broaden the terms I'm using while staying targeted.

    * Have you tried the misspelled keywords yet, maybe using tools like TypoGenerator.com?
    * are you only targeting certain markets? maybe use some more foreign keywords?
    * Did you take permutations of the existing keywords?
    * Have you looked at competitors' sites and ads for keyword ideas?

      Nice thanks!

...What do you mean by taking permutations of existing keywords?

I can't post links but I assume you've Googled such things as 'keyword permutations' and such by now, fwiw.

hehe... no, i guess i'm lazy. i'll do that in a second though.

i just found a pretty good way to find more keywords...

just a reading ads for products and picking up more terms...

then run them through Niche Finder

This used to be a good tactic. I don't like it anymore. Most search engines, Google included, will now post a message right at the top of the serps saying something like "Did you mean to search (correct spelling here)?"

People see that right away, realize they misspelled the word, and click on it. So while misspellings may get a lot of searches, they don't actually get many clicks.

Nice. Thanks for the heads up.

Competing pages/sites and the # of Search results returned when you do a search for your keyword without quotes means nothing. Exact monthly searches is the most important... That's your traffic.

The first 10 results for your targeted keyword(s) - page ONE of Google - is your TRUE competition. They should be the only sites that you are competing with and wanting to outrank... Because it's page ONE or bust IMO.

            Here's something to look at:

EXACT Monthly Searches (and Related Searches):

Your Competition if you Target the keywords Abs Workout:

      Here are a few ideas:

      1) Input those keywords into Google and see what the search phrases are that Google suggests (to automate this you could use one on the many Google Suggest scrapers out there)

      2) Use Google Insights for Search. Input your main keywords and you might be able to discover some new terms that are gaining in popularity but not yet "mainstream" for that market. This way you can optimize for terms that your competitors aren't yet focused on.

      3) Checkout Q&A sites like Yahoo Answers, Ehow and Answers.com. This will clue you in to specific problems and questions people have about your market. Great source of keywords and content ideas.

    Thanks Scott.

    Cool to see my competition.

Maybe I should load those URLs into the Google Keyword tool and see what keywords they spit out for Exact Match.

Is that how you would go about it? Or how would you go about finding and analyzing the data of your competitors?

Fitness is a pretty CROWDED niche... IMO. What I typically do is view all my competitors backlinks in Yahoo! Site Explorer to see if I can steal some of them!

I'm a big fan of SEOQuake - the add-on for FireFox. What I'd do is have SEOQuake Toolbar active and then load my competitions website - I'll have access to all of their Indexed pages, backlinks, keyword density, PR, age, etc... And check them out that way - Usually keep a notepad open for notes and URLs.

I would suggest targeting some long-tail keywords with lower search volume. Maybe 700-2500 exact local monthly searches, because the fitness niche isn't going to be the easiest thing in the world to rank for.

In my previous example at teh #5 spot (abworkouts.net) - he could easily be knocked off... IMO. You just have to optimize better than him... Your on- and off-site SEO.

I would plug and play with the Google Adwords Keyword Tool and get the SEOQuake add-on and/or Traffic Travis (free) to help you do some keyword research and competition research.

I did a Wonderwheel Scrape of the phrase "Ab Workout" and came up with a list of 215 related keyword searches you can check out. No duplicates in list.

      CHEERS!

This is the basics for how I scrape keywords from competition.

    1) Search Google with Google Chrome Incognito (no personalized results) for my root keyword Ab Workout.

    2) Highlight the search results then copy & paste into Windows Notepad.

    3) SAVE the results as a .txt file in Windows Notepad

    4) Open the .txt file in my Firefox browser that is running the SeoQuake toolbar (Free).

    5) After the .txt file is loaded into Firefox, Right Click>SeoQuake>Keyword Density

    6) Click the "3-word keywords table" link in the sidebar, then copy & paste all those long-tail keywords into a new text (.txt) file (creating a 2nd text file). Do the same for "4-word keywords table" & add it to the same text file as the 3-word.

    7) SAVE the text file as a .csv file.

    8) Open the .csv file in Open Office (Free) then sort & clean up any clutter. Do a page search & replace for cache & also similar, leave the replacemant word box blank, that will delete all the clutter words.

The end result is in the attached .txt file below for a Ab Workout Google search with 100 results per search page result. The list is a little over 300 long-tail keywords.

I could create a list about ten times longer If I would have scraped all 1,000 results.

    Here some other idea..

I just search using google adword keyword tool and then I just look for a keyword w/c is not too competitive.

And use a twitter 3rd party integration and set the recurring schedule.

You should fully understand what your site is and what it is. Their point of view, this is the most important step in the search keywords. If you understand the subject site, wrong, wrong, you can choose keywords for a website. Then, no matter what you do, is irrelevant. Therefore, it should be clearly informed on the subject site and choose keywords that are closely related to the theme.

Personally, Google Adwards Keyword Tool is the best tool for Keywords Analysis.
Keyword analysis helps to increase conversions, find new markets, and optimize spend, but it requires time-consuming examination and decision making.

Google freetools: adword keyword tools, google wonderwheel, google trends.

What about going away from the keyword, e.g. what is the intention of doing ABS? what is the purpose, the difficulties, the routine, who normally does it.... just to get ideas. Sometimes when we look at a keyword too closely, we lose its meaning.

OK, You can all Flame me later for my newbie ignorance... but, while reading the comments on a recent WSO, one of the members asked this questions about keyword research in the local market:

"I know there are a lot of search phrases out there that local searchers are using to find local businesses and they very oftin include the town/city name in the phrase. But, when I go to Google keyword tool or Market Samurai I get zero search results. I know this cannot be totally true. Is there a way to zero in on good localized search terms inspite of Google zero count for them?"
This may be old hat for a lot of you more experienced local marketers and I don't mind doing research when it works, but I think this guy is right, there has to be a way to seek out these phrases...anyone have any helpful insights here? It would be appreciated by a lot more people than you might at first imagine. Thak you to those who will flame me and an even bigger thanks ahead of time to those who may offer constructive help.

Only queers and steers would FLAME you for a post like that... And I don't see any cows in here

That's actually a good question. MNF and the Google Adwords Keyword tool leave A LOT out... the micro micro targeted niches that get very low search volume every month, but none-the-less these can be some very profitable, untapped markets.

Dammit there was a post in the War Room I'll have to find. Someone made a tool that did just that. Found the micro, micro niches that these other tools didn't relay.

I'll look for that tool and a link for ya. If anyone else knows this tool or a similar tool off the top of your head please beat me to it!! LOL! :p

Thank you for what ever you can find. You are proving the real worth of the Warrior Forum...the fact that newbies can seek advice from those with experience makes this the best place online to be.

I'll patiently wait your findings. I remember reading an offering sometime back from a warrior who said he would rather have only 10 people a day visit his site but all of them ready to deal with him than 10,000 tire kickers.

    Thanks again scott g.
