I have a new website, I am afraid on how to select the best keyword for that? What are the methods that you guys are following to get keywords which can give you more traffic via Google for a specific niche.

For an example, say, I have a dieting site and I want to market the product in NewYork only for time being,

How exactly are you looking to harness this traffic through Google? Through SEO ("organic search-engine rankings") or AdWords (PPC)?

I ask because it seems to me that unless there are New York-specific dieting-related keywords with a good search-volume and relatively low competition, you're going to be competing, SEO-wise, with general, non-location-specific keyword phrases for which there is likely to be significantly stronger competition.

As such, it may be faster and cheaper to use AdWords for the purpose of targetting to your ads to searchers in New York (based on their IP-location, rather than based on the inclusion of the words "New York" in their search queries).

Of course, depending on your "advertising medium" (SEO vs PPC), there are also different factors to take into consideration when selecting your keywords.

Thanks Michale, I am looking traffic via SEO, but not via PPC.
