Different ranking results Google and Bing

Hi, I have site that's about 1 week old. It's a blog with articles about the life and work of a famous person, updated daily. It also contains some YouTube videos and there's a twitter account. The domain name is a .com of the first and last name of the person with a hyphen inbetween. I'm am noticing a lot of difference in the Google and Bing SERP:

Google: site is indexed, appears number 1 when I type the exact URL and is on first page when combining the name of the person with keywords from the article title or content. However it does NOT seem to rank at all for just the person's name.

Bing: same, but here it does rank for the person's name, and fairly good. Already on middle of page 2 after 1week. I'm getting traffic already from this.

My question: Obviously I am doing something right when looking at Bing results. Why does Google not seem to rank for my main keyword AT ALL? I went through 60 pages and nothing...

That question cannot be answered, except to say google and bing are two completely
different search engines and owned by very, very different companies.

Google has a whole different set of things they look at when putting search
results up. If they didn't, they would be no better, or worse, than Bing.

Keep doing things that google likes, backlinks, content, site structure, etc. and
    who knows?

Thanks, Also a difference I noticed, and maybe this one can be answered, is how the site is being displayed. Bing is using the discription from the wordpress settings page while Google is using text from the articles. I prefer the first to be honest...

I understand your concern. Unfortunately I don't think anyone will be able to answer that. I've been experiencing the same thing! :p

I have a site that ranks in the top 5 for a couple search terms in Google, but ranks #11 and #12 for the two search terms that I am targeting to get into the top 5! Their is a lot of strong competition for my terms, but am ranking in the top 5 in Bing for almost every single keyword - including the 2 search terms I'm having trouble with in Google!

Bing has been nicer to me and is much easier to rank up high in the SERPs for competitive keywords. This is just my experience. On the other hand I have a couple Micro Niche/Adsense sites that rank #1 & #2 for their targeted search terms in Google, and don't rank for crap in Bing.

        Keep digging! Keep building!

        Hi rvdp,

This video may answer your question about text snippets used in descriptions in your listing:

Yes thank you, very useful. One last question: How would you value a Bing first page rank compared to a Google one? I mean in terms of traffic you will receive.

Here's a quick shot comparing some search results for a site I recently ran through SEOBook's Rank Checker add-on for FireFox.

This particular site is relatively new - It's still in the works but is already ranking pretty d@mn good in Bing! WTF! LOL! It's like this for a couple new sites! I don't get it!

For me, Bing has noticed backlinks WAY faster than Google. My site has been around for a month and Google has yet to notice a single backlink, leaving me on the second page for my not-super-competitive keyword. But Bing and Yahoo have me on the first page because they noticed backlinks.

Google has a lot of sites to index - don't worry, be patient and yours will be updated eventually!

Google and Bing have different searching algorithms as Bing give to much importance or value to URL name if it contain keywords.

From an IM point of view this is probably not a bad thing. From the user point of view - content-wise -however google might be superior
