I'm a bit confused now.

Based on the Google ADwords KeyWord Tool (GAKWT) , let's say I had an 2 exact terms mountain bike and mocha blend. And the exact term itself shows like:

a)
mountain bike

Local searches (I use Locations: US) = 9800 searches
Global searches = 12300
Competition = graph shows like almost zero
Estimated Avg.CPC = HKD160 (Hong Kong Dollar. Assuming I'm from HK so my Account is reflective of my location).

b) NLT mocha blend
Local searches (I use Locations: US) = -
Global searches = 38
Competition = -
Estimated Avg.CPC = HKD770 (Hong Kong Dollar. Assuming I'm from HK so my Account is reflective of my location).

Now my questions are:

1) How come with almost zero to {-} competition, the Estimated Avg.CPC is still so high even for {-} which means zero, right?
Aren't the Estm. Avg. CPC bids on adwords price based on competition? The higher = Higher CPC No competition = 0 CPC

2) As per above eg, I'm HK based (so is my blog's IP), selected local location = US.
Does it means that even though the Est.Avg.CPC = HKD160, the HKD is just a currency denomination? the CPC value is CALCULATED based upon US traffic? SO most probably it won't be showing in my site (the ads) coz of my IP ? Then what's the point?

Thanks. Need some input.

    Hi Scooby,
I logged into my Adwords account and did a search for nlt mocha blend from my location which is not HK and chose HongKong from the countries list.

I get Global search count a 0 though you get 38. It is a keyword with low search volume and even the Google Insights tool does not have enough data for the past 12 months for this keyword.

It is important to know that the Adwords tool and most other keyword tools in the market are based on samples of data and the figures shown are based on the sampling. It is a highly statistical process. If there is an error, it will be reflected right across the board.

Viewed in this light, please find below my replies to your queries.

The Avg CPC shown by Google is based on what advertisers are willing to pay. These CPCs are for the Google Adwords network. The CPCs are different for the Content network.

Moreover the Avg CPCs shown by Google are not always correct. As a rule of thumb, you would be well off taking it at half the price displayed there.

Google displays its results on the search engines from different data centers. It is a dynamic process and is based on load sharing by different servers all over the world. So what you see from HK will not necessarily be the same as what you see in Australia or USA. This is with respect to search results.

Based on your IP address, I would assume that the costs are shown in the corresponding currency. It would not be conversion of USD into HKD. It would be based on the demographics of the HK market.

The best thing you can do is to be conservative about the costs and take it at roughly half the value. If it is in reality better than that, you are only going to do better.

      Thanks Raviv

Btw, the NLT mocha blend is just something I made up. That's why I stated "let's just say"

The Avg CPC shown by Google is based on what advertisers are willing to pay. These CPCs are for the Google Adwords network. The CPCs are different for the Content network.
So is there any way / tools to find out the CPCs for content network?

      Thanks again.

On the TOP RIGHT, you will get an option about where the traffic should be from. You can choose US traffic or so there.

The CPC value depends on that traffic!
