Hi

My new website will have a blog (wordpress site) and i was thinking of using long tail keywords as my blog categories, or do you think its best to use shorter keywords?

Do any of you do similar stuff or have any advice for my new blog- be gentle with me as its my 1st proper blog so trying to sort the correct strategy out before doing the hard work after.

thanks

  • Depends on your template and purpose.

Do you really want Google indexing your Categories... which are usually empty or summary pages or do you want them indexing your content?

In my opinion Long Tail Keywords are best used in Title tags along with an SEO plugin on the Pages or Posts you create depending on your template and layout.

Long tail keywords is best used per post...

if you use it as category, then you might find it hard to write content on it everyday...

But then again, the category page will always have thousands of short summaries with variations of your long tail keyword that gives good on-page SEO to your category page...

It ultimately depends on your site!

      Hi
I suppose i do want Google indexing everything on my site, maybe that might even lead to sitelinks further down the line. But i do have SEO plug ins and am using long tail as my titles. I definitely understand that it may cause some difficulties using long tail as categories, i didnt think of that

      thanks for the advice guys

Personally I would use a plugin such as Yoasts SEO plugin and make sure that you are not getting duplicate content issues.

I would recommend you use keyword-related terms for your categories, and allow indexing/following of your categories. But then make sure you do not allow indexing/following of tags, and make sure you get rid of your archives or not allow them to be indexed.

I knew not to allow indexing of tags but not about archives- thanks for that. Is this something to do with keep indexing the same content over and over again?

Are all these controls found in wordpress settings?

      thanks again

Yes, Long tail keyword would work better for your website as well as for your blog. But try to have long tail keywords related to niche and blog categories to get good ranking over search engine.

Just read this string! Perhaps I am tired - had a long day - but it seems from what I read that the advice on this string is contradictory..... Is it me?
