Frustrated with Serps

I have two sites now, one of which is my older and original site and one newer targeting just one keyword. The older site is targeting about 7 different keywords and is ranked between page 2-7 for each. I created a separate site optimized purely for my main keyword, keyword in url, h1, h2, h3 blah blah its all there.

The original site was ranked about page 7-9 for each of the keywords within about 4 days of being indexed by google. This was even before I did any backlinks whatsoever.

The new site which is targeted for the one keyword is indexed and is far more optimized for the one lone keyword but isnt even in the top 1000 ranking.

How is this possible? I purposefully put a bit more effort for on-page SEO on the new site but the older site, which is less optimized, is ranking. The urls for each are as follows:

Original ranking site:

www.myproducernamereview.net

New site:

www.productnamex.net

Maybe the urls cause the conflict? I have no idea honestly. I know too little about seo to solve this myself. Any ideas?

      Hi,
When you built the older site in whatever niche it was, maybe the niche was just gaining popularity and you managed to rank just after getting indexed on the SERPPs.

Today, your new site in the same niche is not doing well maybe because the niche has become popular with good competition.

It is hard to tell without looking at the sites. But you have to do some link building to push your site up in the rankings in most niches. If it is an unknown obscure niche, the onpage optimization should see your site rank on page 1.

But for most mainstream niches, backlinks matter. I would suggest you build some backlinks to the new site,

PS: Make a check on your new domain name to see if it had been dropped in the past or had been banned from Google index and readmitted or something like that.

Turns out I am actually flopping around serps rather than not ranking at all. I had my girlfriend do a quick search for my keyword about an hour ago and there were no results. I searched again about 20 minutes later and it is now #26 page 3. Literally 10 minutes later #37 page 4.

I knew google liked to play with sites shuffling them around to find the best place for them but wow, i did not expect this. I am now #29 and thats kept steady for the past 15 minutes.

I almost feel silly judging ranking by the minute but its been so dynamic and so frustrating not "seeing" it ranked. Google dance lasts how long again? 1 week, 2...or more?
