A client of mine currently has his site one the first page of google for a very competitive keyword.

The site currently has around 2,000 words on the home page, and around 400 internal pages, each with roughly 1,000 words.

The problem I am facing with the redesign is the new site layout only has room for at most 210 words on the homepage.

What will happen if I change this site over, and put the rest of the 1800 words on internal pages of the site?

Will my client lose his rankings? Can I add the text below the new site design? What is the worst that can happen!

Hope someone can help.

Thanks
David

Q: Will your client lose rankings?
    A: Very likely. Especially since it's a major re-redesign.

Q: What is the worst thing which can happen?
A: That you lose rankings and they wont come back.

Why even bother redesigning it, is he making money? instead maybe you should think about multivariate testing and optimization.
