Hi all, in Google my domain when i search my keywords my domain is listed as abcd.com (no - www.)

-when I then click on this google link in the web browser however it is displayed as www.abcd.com,

-lastly all of my backlinks are constructed as www.abcd.com

does this matter, that the domain showing in the google search is missing the (www.) considering my backlinks include the (www.) ...?

Thanks,

Charlotte x

if you are referring to backlinking to www.domain.com or just domain.com, the search engines recognize these links as TWO SEPERATE SITES.

You need to backlink only to one version of your site!

It is wise to create a 301 redirect on one of your website versions to the other version so that all of your backlinks point to the one version of your site in Googles eyes.

    Hope this answers your question.

    Cheers,
    Dave

      Hi Charlotte,
If you are finding 301 redirect difficult to implement, you can go into your Google Webmasters account and change a setting there.

If you have added your site and verified it, when you click on your site URL, you will be taken to a screen called Dashboard.

Click on Site Configuration and then under it click Settings

      Under Preferred Domain
select the radio button Display URLs as www.yoursite.com

Google will ask you to verify by one of the three methods available. Just follow the instructions and you are done.
