Lower CTR but higher earnings with Large Adsense Units

Hey guys, I decided to do some testing on one of my websites. I changed the top adsense unit on my index page from a Square Link Unit to a Large Rectangle Ad Unit.

The results were a bit strange.

I was making more earnings with the same traffic, but the CTR on the large rectangles was quite a bit lower.

Conclusions? Advertisers are paying more for Large Rectangle ads, but less visitors are clicking on them.

Anyone experienced similar?

    Hi MrWonton,

I was not aware that you (as a adwords client) can choose the type of add box, where your ads will be shown. I believe you dont have that option, when talking about text ads.

It could be the deal with image ads.

I myself have found, that 300x250 works best for my template, cause the XXL rectangle is too big and you cannot wrap the text around it nice enough.

    Sincerely, Buyseech

I think it all depends on quality of click. usually misclicks just make few cents. I have a blog that gets lot of ad clicks but less earning though. Im testing it by reducing the number of ads and somewhat alerting users that it is ad so that after they click the ad they simply do not bounce back.
