Tracking Pretty Link clicks, Same IP Address has hundreds of clicks? (Wordpress site)

Hi everyone,

I am working on a few Wordpress sites for Amazon affiliate marketing, and I am using Pretty Link (free version) for most of my outbound links, and it has a reporting feature that shows when and who clicks those Pretty Links.

It shows the IP Address that is clicking on these links, and there is a number in parenthesis next to the IP Address, which I believe indicates how many "clicks" were made by that IP address.

MY QUESTION IS: A couple IP Addresses have "hundreds" of clicks on my links over several days. One of them looks like its clicking my pretty links several times, every day!

* Also, I have the "nofollow" attribute included on all my links, so I thought that would mean "robots" would not follow those links.

What is this?! It obviously can't be valid human links. What's the best way to tell them to go away and stop messing up my stats?

The main culprit on one of my sites is 174.122.50.58 (433) .

In case anyone knows this to be a particular "robot"?

Thanks for any ideas and help!

It is very difficult to say who could that be. May be it is your IP if you are visiting your blog several times.

      Thanks Giani,

Definitely not my IP address. And I really only click my outbound links once to make sure they're working. But otherwise, I make sure I do not click on them so I can keep my stats clean.

        Jax',

The webhost is The Planet . com

Here are all the websites hosted on that particular IP.
85 sites hosted on IP Address 174.122.50.58

Look through the list and see if any of them look familiar or are in the same niche as you.

I've experienced the same thing as you in the past. and two out of three times the culprit turned out to be SEO companies looking for potential new clients. Don't be surprised if you get an email from one of them telling you that they've noticed extra activity with your site, and then offer SEO services to take advantage of this extra activity.

I've been getting the same issue with the free version of pretty link! Over 1 day I've gotten 160 hits from the same IP address on my cloaked affiliate links and it's really messing up my conversion stats.

          The IP is: 174.120.11.194

Can someone please help me with this? What can I do to stop this? Also, is it gonna affect my site on Googles's SERPs?

Hey Cask...I did a quick Google search and found an easy way to keep anyone on that URL from coming back. The link I found said to change your .htaccess file to look like the following:

      Order allow, deny
      Deny from 192.168.0.10
      Deny from 212.155.
      Deny from 1.2.3.4 5.6.7.8 127.0.0.1
      Allow from all
Change the 1.2.3.4 to the IP you're trying to block.

I've tried the above, but it blocks off access to Easy WP SEO.

I did a search on the IP and it turns out to be my hosting server! Which is incredibly weird. Also, I get all these hits every time I update/make a new post. Can someone help me on this? Please?
