How many backlinks is too many?

Hi,

just wondering. I have 2 new websites. Both are only about 10 days old. Each website has 5 pages and I want to rank each individual page for a certain keyword.

I have already done all of the on page SEO. But now I want to start my backlinking. So lets use site one as a example.

Should I do this?

- submit main url to say 1 article directory, 1 social site, one press release site
- submit page 1 of site to 1 article directory, 1 social site, one press release
- submit page 3 to etc etc etc

Same goes with all pages. And I want to use anchor text that targets my keyword for most of these backlinks right? Or can I build a lot more backlinks then this at first? Just confused on how fast is too fast and also if I can build links for all my internal pages or just the main url?

Also will it hurt my orginal page rank if I take the exact content from that page and submit it to articlebase, ezinearticles etc? Or should I write a unique article to do this? Thanks

The pace you described is definitely not too fast.

In fact, to me, it seems quite slow...

Feel free to do large quantities of backlinking, at least if you keep up the pace consistently. You probably won't be able to get your site "banned" by building lots of links no matter how hard you tried.

if I can build links for all my internal pages or just the main url?
I would focus most of my backlinking to just one page (and get it ranked) at first. (But I would also build some backlinks to other pages also.) It's up to you, if you want to focus on the homepage or any of the internal pages.

Also will it hurt my orginal page rank if I take the exact content from that page and submit it to articlebase, ezinearticles etc? Or should I write a unique article to do this?
Using the same content on several places doesn't affect your pagerank.

I wouldn't fear about using the same content on several sites, but you may want to have at least some unique, "exclusive" content on your site.

I agree with Mugil. Build 1 page up, your homepage or internal to rank it, then go for the other pages. When people say don't build backlinks too fast or only do 10 per day, where did they come up with that number? If a video goes viral and 20,000 new people all of a sudden link it, does google ban that site? If building links too fast were to ban sites, then how come everybody isn't doing it to their competition? ...Because they'd be helping their competition gain free backlinks, thats why.

Build at your own pace, if you can build more and submit to more article directories, go for it. Imagine companies who have a team of 10 doing SEO, are they only allowed to do 10 backlinks each and then clock out?

Mugil is right for the most part. I would like to add that it's important to keep that pace going throughout the life of the site.

For New Domains For Example, I perform 25 original backlinks to my site, 10 new directories, and 25 social bookmark submissions, and 10 articles.

I keep this pace going for a few weeks then develop more
Then I gradually grow from there. That's worked for my new sites pretty well.

There is no such thing as too many back links. You could build a million and won't be "banned". Just because you build a ton of backlinks doesn't mean the googlebot is going to index them all at the same time!

It kind of depends on how old the site is, but the backlinks will ALWAYS make your site come back stronger, even if it disappears for a while. Try to build in moderation though, to prevent google from removing you from the serps to analyze your backlinks/site.

i don't think any number is too many. like they always say, if too many can get you banned or something, then you can always do it to the competition to get them penalized

there are also sites that drop off the rankings for no apparent reason...i have experienced it before and so have many other people. it doesn't necessarily mean too many backlinks or anything like that...

I have just had a whole site lost all of it's rankings (for many keywords- some on the first page) for a reason I cannot seem to figure out. Some of the keywords are on the last few pages. Backlink profile of the site is diverse, however, I did add about several hundred new backlinks about a month or so ago (blogroll links). This was all from a few sites (a few IP addresses). On the other hand, I have a ton of diverse IP addresses (backlinks- forum profiles, articles etc) so I cannot pinpoint a reason why the whole site had lost it's rankings (even typing in the domain name does not show up).

    New site?

Don't touch in backlinks FOR NOW.

Invest in 3 viral videos (scream like a madman, copycat a famous movie/actor, sing like bieber... etc etc) and those videos will bring you backlinks for months... the kind of links you will love for years.

    Strange approach, nice results.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

Back links are never too many.

To achieve the highest rank in the search engine the more the back links you have the more the benefit you get.
