Can I start backlinking before I post articles?

I just launched my first adsense site and I'm confident that I can make it profitable. I've outsourced my articles and want to start creating backlinks, but I haven't received the articles yet. It's likely I will have them soon, but for future information it would be helpful to know if I can start creating links as soon as my site is configured.

Actually after thinking about it, I think the answer is no. I'm targeting multiple keywords so I would want to wait until I have articles up for each keyword and create backlinks for each keyword and the corresponding page. I don't want to focus on just the domain.

    Eh?

Page Authority trickles down from the home page to your sub pages.

However, I do not recommend link building and getting Google's attention before you have content.

A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself, does this seem natural?

Is it natural to have a bunch of links pointing to a site without content?

I would have to say no.

      Good decision.

Just post some good quality, unique articles first.

Then do backlinging. It will help you to get success in IM.

I am thinking no also. Just wondering what you would be backlinking to, Google might just punish you for something like this.

Always get all your content posted before you do the backlinking. This will allow you to have the chance to alter your desired anchor text.

The basic principle of getting backlinks for articles is to post it first before getting backlinks.

      Good question.

For one site... I started building backlinks about a week before I even purchased the domain! Lol! That was the site that ended up with like 3k links showing up in Yahoo! Site Explorer when it was technically only a week old.

There were no negative effects from backlinking ahead of schedule... Probably got my site and its pages indexed and ranked faster!??!

I say go for it! Backlink just like you would if you for any other site using the proper anchor text for your hyperlinks!

      CHEERS!

You want to do things in the proper order. So you want your site build and content solid before you start building backlinks or setting up pay per click.

Yup, I'd agree with Scott here. What I usually do on all my sites before I put an article on the front page (the one I'm linking to) is to put a little placeholder text just saying something like "Welcome to XYZ site. This site is under construction right now, but check back often for updates." I haven't had any problems with it.
