Hello Warriors - I have a question about SEO. I just started with internet marketing and some of you might know I am a full time magician. So, I made a few blogs and a squidoo lens and my magic site using a key word:
birthday magician nj - Now, when I go to ggole and type that my wordpress blog comes up #2 and my squidoo lens #7 but when my firend in NJ tries it - I am not listed on that first page of google.

First - does anyone know what is going on and Second - how do I fix this problem? Please reply on this thread because I can not yet do PM because I only have 30 some posts.

I am just trying to understand the whole SEO thing - it's a learnign curve...lol

Thank You All!

Mark

    Couple of questions.

Are you logged into your Google Account? If so, log out.
Is your friend in the same 'area' as you?
Have you searched that before and clicked your own site in the results? Clear your cache, or use another browser.
Also, try an anonymous proxy like pagewash.com or something, then search. Your result may be less biased.

Try that. If you have done all the above, then it is possible that different data centres are displaying different results.

What's your domain name? I'll let you know what I see when I Google "birthday magician nj" and tell you where I see your site ranked.

  • There is no such thing as a #1 result. Google will attempt to return the most relevant result on a user by user basis. Google tracks IP's and they track user behaviors with cookies. So if you friend was viewing bicycle parts then heads over to your magic site there is a pretty good change that Adsense Ads would show bike parts then magic supplies. I use Adsense as an example because this happens to me all the time and I clear my cookies frequently. So I know for sure Google is looking and compiling information on my browsing behavior.

If you have a real local business you want to make sure you are doing everything you can to rank in Google Places. You'll get more traffic that way.

You can also use Google Chrome Incognito to do a search. That should give you better results.

Google, being the wonderfully customer-driven company it is, tries to give you what it thinks you want. If you have visited your site through the search results before, Google will think this is a relevant entry, and will continue to show it to you thinking that you may want to use it more than once.

You need to search via proxy server as Google has saved your website you as one of your favourite website

    try freeproxyserver.net

    then type in www.google.com

and then search for your website again

Thanks You to each and every one of you for helping me with this. As you know it is hard to understand when you are starting out. I can write product - web copy etc - but SEO is my weakest point and so is the tech stuff - so this is very helpful!
