1st place on google but not anymore...

So yesterday right before I went to bed I checked my position on google and to my surprise I was on the 1st place!

From page 6 to 1st place on google.

This morning I checked again and I'm back to page 6.

How come? It's a big jump, google dance? Can I expect to be back on 1st place soon?

I posted this thread already a few minutes ago but it disappeared.

    The algorithm of Google is unknown.
    That's difficult to say for sure.

      It happens all the time, just keep doing what you are doing and you'll eventually get that spot.

      On some of my busier sites i use a plugin that tracks the rank of the site for every keyword used to find it... I've had days where I get 14 emails an hour with rank changes for 1 term.

    Hey, same here, I was on the 1st page in the evening, but just the other day morning, I was back again on the 4th page.. Google must have crawled our pages that time and so theirs a sudden change in the ranking.. Don't worry, but soon you will be on the 1st page.. I had such an experience earlier..!! Good Luck..

    It might be due to the Google customization based on your searching history...Google personalize your search activities and rank the web page that you frequently visit high on the search results. Go to Google Web History and click on "Disable customizations based on search activity" and try to perform the search again. That will be the true results.

    Google is just testing your site out. Your website is using good keywords and you are starting to rank. Don't change anything for now. Just let your website be.... track results... and after 3 - 6 month, then play with it some more.

    Make QUITE sure you are getting the right ranking spot, as others have pointed out. You should always check with a third-party tool, a proxy like Hide My Ass! Free Proxy and Privacy Tools - Surf The Web Anonymously or with the Scroogle Scraper: Scroogle Scraper - that way you know the results are not skewed. The number of people that have thought they got to page one (not saying that's you) when in fact they were one page 53, but Google served them on page one with a page that they had shown a preference before by clicking on it a lot (i.e. their own).

      I'll bookmark this, I just checked it and it's the same as in google when I see it. So that's good. It probably was on rank 1 for everyone then as well. I'll just wait a bit longer for it to return to 1 again.

      The same thing happened to me also i too was there in first page of google before few days and later i was not there in the search even in the first 1000 position for my keywords but today once again i am back to the top spot in google search for my keywords so don't worry you also will reach your previous spot soon...

    Be sure not to be logged into your gmail account when searching so as not to give a skewed result. Once logged out of gmail, clear your cache.
