Building Links But Not Rising At All

Over the past month I have thrown a number of high pr and diverse ip backlinks to my site but it has never moved up in ranking. I am only targeting one keyword in my site. Its exact match for my url. And I have used 100% main keyword anchor text for this site. I have created maybe 150 verified links in google but I have lowered from #27 in google to #55, now in the past day #57.

My on page is as optimized as it can be. I made sure it was indexed prior to building links to it and, as i said, it was #27 when it was first indexed for the keyword. Then I created about 3-6 links per day and it has only dropped since then. These links include blog comments on relevant blogs, article submissions, and one outsourced blog network blast which I have verified links for.

I have no idea whats causing this. I can see if the site wasnt moving at all, but its actually dropping despite my links. Help please.

How long have you been building these backlinks for? Expect rankings to go up/down a lot during the first couple months. Continue building.

New websites sometimes rank high in Google for a little while (freshness). To keep and improve those rankings you need to build backlinks.

Don't listen to idiots who'll say your backlinks are bad or that Google "can see through" your "plan". Continue building.

I agree with his statement. If you stop building links or not building anything relevant such as doing articles or directory submissions, you'll lose some rankings. Article Content pointing to your site brings great value. So does backlinks, so you have to keep those two in mind to keep improving rankings.

3-6 backlinks per day? That seems a little on the low side. How many backlinks does your competitors have on the first page of Google? Are you far off from them? Continue to build backlinks and don't stop, you're site is probably doing the google dance, but I would recommend at least getting a minimum of 30 backlinks per day if you want to boost your results. Look into article marketing in addition to your blog comments.

This is a micro niche site. Two posts but 900 words each, posted about a week apart. Only looking at the one product name keyword here so it shouldn't be too difficult.

I chose 3-6 links per day to look natural. No way Im throwing 50+ links on a new site just to get it thrown back at me. If it had more age on it than a month, I would put a lot more effort into linking. For now I think a little less than 10 links per day consistently is fine.

I will be concentrating on edu/gov links next while doing more article directory submissions.

Is there any opinion on keyword density? I had 3% initially then I made it 1.2% or something to make it more readable.

Competition on front page has between 100-500 links. I have 8 links verified in yahoo site explorer which is pitiful considering the 150 verified links i have in google.

When in doubt...double the amount of backlinks to your site. It's a recipe that works for me every time I implement it.

Try promoting those articles. Add a signature to your forum profile, and any other forums that allow it that you participate in. You can easily increast that with little effort to 20 a day. Google is not going to frown at 400-500 new links a month.

It can take a while and its pretty common for the rank to bounce around especially on ranks 30-90.

I have had similar results. I put up a 3 page site, then began to build backlinks to using the various backlink packets with some results. Then I after 2 months I suddenly shot from page 6 to page 1 and now I fluctuate between position #9 and #10 for the keyword (still not good enough for me) It is frustrating but I won't give up. It seems that it takes way more time than I want it too.

This is your problem. You also need to target related keywords.

For me it's hard to really comment without taking a look at the site. But what you're doing sounds good, be patient and give it more time. See where you are again in a month and then reassess.

this is known as the google dance. Your site will drop but then it will go up higher than before, but just be consistent in your link building.

It was pretty aggravating initially because I used a service for 400 profile links spread out over a month and 40 of the links are google verified but it seemed to do zero for my rankings. I am currently #58 for my keyword and haven't moved for like a week. I also have the blog comments, blog network submissions and article submissions. It needs time though.

I see one of my top competitors has about 1,200 links for his ranked page. His content isn't all that great and I can tell he just used basic SEO for on-page. 500-600 word article with 1% density and rehashed information from the sales page with poor grammar. Gives me a bit of confidence. Backlinks are the only thing keeping him up. I'm not stopping until i hit top 3 no matter how many links it takes. But Ill start pulling my hair out if im #58 after another few months

I totally know the feeling. It's not like you're trying to rank for 'make money online', it's just 'riding lawnmower accessories' or whatever (I guessed your niche, admit it!) yet it just won't budge! From experience it seems to me the age of your site has a lot to do with it and the 1-2 month time frame is not unrealistic even for a relatively low-competition niche. Patience patience... Oh and maybe throw some other types of link in - some people swear by social bookmarking for example.

Riding lawnmowers lol. Nope nope, not even close. My niche is actually in music. Its a nifty two word product name that displays as "difficult" or "challenging" in any keyword tool i use to gauge its rankableness (you like my new word?). Most of my competition has hundreds of links I have to fight against. Oddly enough I have a self development blog with a long tail keyword I didnt even try ranking. Yet lo and behold its page 1 for its targeted keyword. For fun Im pushing it to numero uno with some links. Did not expect nor intend for it to rank at all *shrugs shoulders*

I think sparing use of ping services is ok, but not great. I never use it to speed up links getting indexed as they need to be discovered naturally since SEO is supposed to be completely "organic" traffic. Ive only ever used it to ping my url once updates were done. Just the once though and thats prior to google indexing my site.

this is sometimes a waiting game thats why you should keep it consistent.

Results will come if you've done enough

Double the amount if you still aren't seeing results. Keep tweaking and experimenting to see what works for you.

tell me one thing - do you keep in mind the theme aspect while obtaining links from websites? You know, among all the criteria Google has set for giving a website ranking, staying connected with similar websites (that contain similar content) through quality links is considered the most. 40 standard link from thematic websites are more valuable than 100 links from high PR non-thematic websites. So, my friend, you are advised to concentrate on the theme aspect more than anything else while developing links in order to improve its ranking. Follow this for a month and then see how your site rides the rank ladder smoothly.

Google is all about natural linking, try and link through other sites to create more traffice coming through other sites, it can also be down to the words you are linking, what do people type in, music.. however you need to be putting 1 or 2 keywords in and then with your last keyword linking "Click here" or "View now" which refers back to your site. Or link an actual phrase not just keywords. As previously suggested you need to up the amount of blogs you are doing 20 plus a day. Also get on some of these review sites such as dooyoo and write about the products etc.

You mentioned that you have used 100% you main keyword as anchor text. If you mean to say that all of your backlinks have the same anchor text, then this could be one of the reason. Natural link building involves your keyword + related ones being used as anchor text, try to vary it using LSI keywords as there is a thing called over optimization penalty.

Also, how old is your domain? If it is relatively new then Google would on purpose keep in below the top pages initially.

Social bookmark your backlinks under various different profiles and they will be picked up faster. If your site is brand new you cant expect ranking changes up and down for at least 3 months.

It's fine to use your main keyword for anchor text, but you don't want to go overboard on this. It hapenned to me recently in Yahoo. I went from being 8th to 18th, and now almost worked my way back up, I am now 12th for my main competitive keyword.

The blog comments I made were all on relevant blogs. I am gearing the anchor text for the gov/edu links to be for main keyword then the article marketing will be spread out through my main and the two alternates, so three altogether. I'm not spreading the anchor text out so much because there really isn't that much on the site. It's very targeted to one product, one theme so the main keyword is the product name, then two review based alternates.
