Hi, BigBuddy. RSS feed increases traffic when people who have subscribed to your feeds visit your site. Or if you submit your feed to RSS feed directories, you might get some traffic that way too but its rare to generate good traffic that way. For placing it in your website you first need to create an RSS feed, for which there are mostly paid options available. Placing it in the root directory and linking it is then a very straightforward process.

I sometimed submit my RSS feed to different feed directories, but honestly I didn't notice any increase in traffic from them. I only submit them because some of the links get indexed (no linkjuice though, but every link counts in the end).

It increases the number of backlinks to your site, which will in turn help you rank better.

You should make it so readers can auto detect the RSS feed see: Free Tool Creates RSS Auto Discovery Code
