Exact Match Domain Question

Please enlighten me on this one...

I know it is good to have a domain that matches your keyword, but what if it has extra words as well?

If I was trying for the keywords "cotton candy" for example, I realize cottoncandy.com would be ideal. But what if I could only get -
mycottoncandy or funcottoncandy or whatever? That domain still contains the keywords - but is it watered-down by the other words?

Just trying to figure out how all this relates to the search engines.

Any thoughts?

The keyword with prefix or suffix is fine in the domain name. Exact match domains are good but they are not the be all end all.

In SEO, anything that is easy to do loses value quickly. Anything that is hard and requires perseverance and persistence in efforts will carry lot of weight.

If the keyword with a prefix or suffix is the best you can do, then go for it. It will work just fine. If you can get the keyword all by itself, then so much the better, you are a lucky person. That is hard to do most of the time, so just get the best you can get.

I have found that it's very tough to find exact matches but I have had a lot of success using hyphens although never with more than two so I avoid looking spammy. The only problem with hyphens is they can affect the click through rate. When it comes to ranking them though I have no problem with it. Also if I do add something to the keyword I generally use a suffix, not a prefix. That way the domain reads with the keyword first. It all depends on the type of site you are doing but I have found a lot of success using "keywordinfo.com" like cottoncandyinfo.com, I have found that these are a lot easier to rank than keyword.info. Hope that helps!

Most EMDs are taken and the second best thing is adding another word in front or end. It would not be a major surprise if Google put an end to this practice soon as they know many people exploit this loophole.

I don't quite think you can call that a loophole...

If what you say is true then google.com would no longer rank #1 when searching for google?

Our experience (we're new) has been that we do better with exact matches. My guess is that in the long run, it only matter slightly...but we've noticed a fairly significant difference early on. Hope that helps...

Do you mean you expect Google devalue the exact match domain that it has in place now?
