Index delay observation

Hello, I just noticed something recently and was wondering if anyone had any insite.

Most times when I publish a post in wordpress on a particular site my articles are indexed almost immediately. Sometimes within minutes. This is the usual case on this site.

Recently I made the observation that whenever I publish a post but change the post title meta tag using the All in One SEO plugin there is a delay.

Example: My HTML on page title might read: "Wechter 1850 Elite Green Widget Review" but I might want my meta tag to simply read "Wechter Green Widget" so I fill in the SEO plugin title box.

This seems to cause the delay however. Sometimes it is a delay of almost a week.

My question is 1.) why does it do this and 2.) Does it hurt me in any way such as SEO to have a different html page title then my meta tag title.

THanks

Well, I can guess why a sort of delay is experienced but wonder if that might have negative impacts on your web ranks or traffic stats. As soon as you publish your posts, the Googlebot may take a snapshot of the updated page and gets ready to index it but then receives another automatic ping about another newer update and so, it might wait for some days before deciding what to so. It can be cool to leave the pages as they are for some time.

The answer is no. However, I usually match my main KWs in the title tag with the title w/in the HTML. At least most of the time.

Thank you both for the information. I only publish once and have my meta title tag defined in the initial publish. I don't go back to do it. I don't know much about pinging servers but I guess your saying it pings the post as normal and then gets a second response with the alternate meta title and pings it again.

Anyway, my main concern was maybe this was a questionable bad practice for SEO but I'm glad that it is not.

In my experience, changing it later doesn't negatively affect it. It's just annoying to have to wait for the listing to be updated. I usually come up with something better, and then get frustrated as I wait for the updates to be recognized.

      Hey Michael,
I use All in One SEO Pack and I use the same title for the WP post and the All in One SEO title tag. I keep them the same. In some posts I have differing titles for both.

But I do not have any problem in getting the post indexed by Google. Maybe it is because I have a pattern and I write every Tuesday and Thursday. So the bots get used to this posting pattern and are ready to devour the content when it is published following the usual routine.

BTW I use WP to Twitter plugin and every post gets tweeted straightaway. Maybe you can try doing this. If it works for me, it should work for you as well.

      Best

Thanks guys, Raviv, If you don't fill in the All in One SEO plugin Title it will automatically use the post title so there is not need to fill it in twice. I only do it if I want them to be slightly different.

Thats a good point about developing a posting routine. I really don't have one and tend to post whenever I have a post ready. I guess I should look into this.

I am currently posting to twitter and my facebook page on automatic
