Google Dance - Why certain sites and not others?

I've got several sites that are about four months old. Two in particular are being "danced around" by Google on a regular basis while the others are not.

Every few days they move around from somewhere around SERP #12-15 and drop into the 600's. This lasts as long as a couple weeks and then they return to where they were. Has happened five or six times.

Just wondering if anyone has any theory on why *certain* sites seem to dance regularly while others not at all?

This may sound like a stupid question, but here goes: These two sites are the same domain name except one is the plural version. They are both .nets. It seems *very unlikely*, but could this somehow be the cause? Might Google see the "same" URL name (at the same shared IP address) and have an issue with this?

Thanks.

Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason, it could be one small thing on your site that Google doesn't agree with. Or the bouncing can be a good sign as it'll then settle nicely on page 1. Tough to say.

I don't see how the two domains on the same IP could be the problem... with a shared hosting account there could be hundreds of sites on the IP and there is always a chance that some have a similar name.

In general, I would say not to worry about it. It will settle down eventually, just keep building backlinks. Remember, Google is not just dancing your sites, it is adjusting every site and where it ranks. Just because some sites never seem to move, doesn't mean that their "score" isn't changing.
