Hi, I have a number of pages in my website's footer that I would like to place the "rel nofollow" tag attribute on, but I am not sure which ones I should add the nofollow tag on for Page Rank sculpting purposes. Here are the list of pages I am considering placing the link attribute on:

Please share your thoughts on which pages I should and should not place the "rel nofollow" link attribute on for Page Rank sculpting purposes...

Page Rank Sculpting does not work as it once did.

Google changed how they dealt with it a couple years ago.

For example, let's say that you have 10 links on a page.

Originally, if you no-followed five of them, Google would divide all of the link popularity among the remaining five links equally.

Since the change, Google calculates how the value of the link popularity and divides it by the total number of links on the page. Then they only attribute value to those that do not have a no-follow on them.

Let's say, for the sake of this example, that the link popularity for the page was 10.

In the original system, you could no-follow 5 links, and each of the remaining 5 links would get a link popularity of 2 given to them.

In the current system, the 5 that have no-follows get 0 value passed, and the 5 without the do-follow get 1 point each. The 5 no-followed do not give their value to other links on the page.

    I hope this makes sense.

Given Google's current design, I think PageRank sculpting is dead.

So, you are saying I shouldn't put the nofollow tag on any of the pages I mentioned, just ad the noindex tag instead?

I don't worry about it at all anymore.

I only use nofollow-noindex when I don't want Google to look at the page.

That having been said, Google does prefer if your site has a Privacy Policy published and a TOS.

Wouldn't the Terms of Use be equivalent to the Terms of Service page? Also, what do you mean by published, not having the "nofollow tag" on the two pages you mentioned?

    What he said.

As far as I know, it doesn't work at all. It's about as effective and repeating the same word 100 time on your page.

    I wouldn't bother with either.

    Why?

Having your contact or TOS page indexed, or not, isn't going to make a difference. It's not going to hurt or benefit your site one way or the other so what is the point of doing it.

I still nofollow social bookmarks. However, PageRank sculpting in the sense of organizing your internal links to push link juice towards important pages is still useful. (You can use a program to analyze this sitewide.) But "nofollow" is probably dead

Have to agree with Bill but for another reason. i did some work with a client (large site -300 pages)

We no followed the internal likes, like you were looking - Now 30 days- zero effect on ranking...

Better to focus on incoming links......

There are more important things (IMHO!) than focusing on page rank sculpting.
