Not hard at all IF you know what you are doing.

Have a look at both google.com and google.com.au for the search term "hotels in australia"

I am sitting at #6 and #7 respectively. First Page

You own both ChoiceHotels.com.au and AustraliaHotels.com.au? They both have .com.au tacked at the end there.

Anyway, back to the OP: it can depend on where you've hosted your website as well.

    It is very easy
To make it even easier try this
1.Host the site in Australia google sees the ip ad of your domain and will list you in Australia and the rest of the web.
2.You can use google tools to tell google your website is Australian.

I asked a similar question relating to .co.uk recently. I have a .net that targets the UK.

You know what? It hit the number two spot in Google.co.uk within a month, just a week after doing so on Google.com. So I am calling 'cow-doo-doo' on the theory that the domain makes a big difference. I think the most important thing I did might have been targetting UK in Webmaster Tools, though I am sure the domain must have SOME bearing, it's not essential.

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise
