Hi all I am new to this site and would firstly like to say hello and that I am looking forward to gaining a lot of information. I think I am getting somewhere with my website but am looking to learn more information than I think I can give at the moment. All advice is greatly recieved as I have never experienced a lot of the issues that I am coming up with.

My website for Retro Gaming and Console Repairswas appearing number one in SERP's for locally targeted keyword campaigns. All of a sudden my keyword backlinking campaigns started to kick in and my SERP's are all over the place. Still appearing in some areas and just completely gone in others. Why is this happening and how do I get back to where I was?

I have noticed that www2. and www3. servers are down for the UK and it seems weird that my webmasters tools has just gone crazy and all this is happening. Am I going to come back stronger than ever as some people predicted or am I being sandboxed?

HELP ME PLEASE! Appearing number 1 in SERP's was helping me no end, as I offer repairs at a much lower rate than any of my local competitors!

Thank you,
James @NRGUK

Also I have only linked to PR0 pages where would you suggest I get high quality, higher than PR0 backlinks? Finally my site is norwichretrogaming with a .co .uk adress!

It is not unusual for new sites to move around in the search engines it takes time and sustained backlinks to rank well. There is no "quick cure". If you are desperate for traffic you can "buy" it using things like AdWords, while your organic rankings shake out.

I agree, if you need traffic immediately then buying it is probably going to be your best bet.

SEO is a long term game which means that your results on any given day can vary. It is just the nature of the beast. Looking at your site, I doubt that it has been sandboxed. For a little while, it is just a waiting game until it starts to settle a little more in the SERPs. Just keep doing what was working in the first place and once the SERPs settle down you will likely be better off than when you started.

I think my site is quite good for content and is getting much more backlinks than my competitors, as I said my targeted keywords are very localized such as PS3 Repair Norwich. I have dropped 5 or 6 positions in that and even lower for other ones such as PS3 repair bury st edmunds.

Also I have a terrible page rank, I think. My marketing strategy has literally consisted of forum posting, some (VERY FEW) directories, so help with that would be awesome and my own bloggs so yea. I need to know how to diversify my back links and am looking for any help.

Probably the guys are right, but I would point out a couple (OK, more than a couple) of things I noticed:

    1) Looking at the source code of your site (say, for the PS3 repair Norwich page) there is LOADS of unnecessary crap in your sidebar, like why are the <li> elements wrapping <div> elements and what's with the "dir" attributes on the divs as well? Maybe you're not into HTML etc. but I can say your site is VERY code-heavy and totally not in line with current CSS and HTML standards - all that stuff could be done in Wordpress really easily, or just plain HTML, with literally just a few lines of code.

    2) The actual content of your page doesn't even START till halfway down through the source code - before that there is tons of the aforementioned sidebar stuff, javascript (which serves no useful purpose that I can see) and gawd knows what else. Also, the content itself is wrapped in too much HTML. I mean, looking at the source, the actual content of your site, the bit you really want Google to look at, is almost LOST!

    3) You haven't specified META description and META keywords tags in your header. Although most people think keywords are no longer considered by Google, it doesn't cost you anything to add them and the description IS still used by Google, at least to show in your SERP listings, and probably to rank you as well.

    4) You have no <h1> tag specified, you have an EMPTY <h2> tag, and your first header tag is actually an <h3>. Yet your main header, "PLAYSTATION 3 REPAIR IN NORWICH" is wrapped in <font> tags - which are a big no-no these days and have no semantic value to the search engines - instead of <h1> as it should be. So how is Google supposed to know what the page is even about?

I'm not saying this has ANYTHING to do with your current issue, nor that these factors necessarily damage your site's rankings, or that Google insists on your site being perfectly in line with current design practice. But at the same time, it's a miracle you were even on page one You are not helping Google rank you and REALLY slimming down your design and getting it in line with some standards would do the world of good. Your site would load faster too... My guess is that for a couple of hundred quid (absolute max) you can find someone round here who can reproduce your entire site in Wordpress in the space of an afternoon, preserving all the links and everything, but making it a WHOLE LOT SEO friendlier.

Don't want to bring your efforts down, it's just where I would start. Sucks to have your main earner drop off the front page, it's happened to me.

The other lesson is definitely find some other sources of traffic, don't just rely on Google. Find some relevant forums, keep posting useful info with your sig at the bottom (make sure the owner is fine with ads in your sig) and maybe even buy up some banner ads there - they can be dirt cheap yet send you lots of targeted customers.

Sure you'll be back in no time, in any case.

This is really helpfull but my issue is this.... I got this website from GBBO its a site that gives you free easy to use website editor and that is literally how my website has been put together. I don't think there is any way of changing the way it is coded though I may be wrong? Can anyone help me?

I have managed to add <H1> tags to the website now and remove some open <H3> tags that were there for no reason whatsoever. As I said the coding is TERRIBLE but its a free website and has to do for the time being!

Hey, even that's a start! You never know, even that might improve things

I thought it might be one of those 'make-your-own-site' jobbies - those programs have a lot to answer for!

But someone who does this for a living (not me, I've got my work cut out just on my own sites) could very easily take what you have there, install a fresh Wordpress, and reproduce the entire site, and it really wouldn't take much work, you haven't got anything complicated on there that I can see.

Again, not saying that's your problem, but it's not helping, and a keyword like 'PS3 repair Norwich' shouldn't be very hard to rank for really, so I guess something is going on there. You seem to have dropped right out of the SERPS, but provided you haven't been doing anything dodgy you can just as quickly drop back in.

The thing is I have a legit copy of Dreamweaver and would be willing to reproduce a website to a fairly high standard, I just don't want to lose the work that I have already done. Hmmm I dunno, maybe I should put it to the forum and see what they think!
