Hi everyone,

Still pretty new to the forum but I'd like to get a question answered if possible. I've two sites in two different niches and both were just starting to rank for the keywords which I have been working on. However over the last week I've dropped completely off the radar, it's like they've just gone.

I was wondering if anyone knows why? Or if its happened to anyone else.

Thanks in advance.

PS I've not changed anything that i have been doing building backlinks as per normal throuhg articles, blog commenting etc.

Maybe this is Google dance which is quite common with new sites. Are your sites thin, in that the amount of content / pages are limited? Google these days has a limited liking to sites which are small in terms of content.

Build more backlinks, it is probably Google just assessing your new backlinks.

I call it the Google Bounce- seen it happen many times before- normally lasts around 7-10 days. Happens to a lot of sites -a client who has t PR3 site had it happen to him- bounced back at number 3

Well if you have been doing backlinking or SEO, that is something you should certainly expect from google. You will rank then all of a sudden drop and in like 4 days time you rank, and this time even higher than before. Thats the graph. It's like Google is feeling your site.
Here is one simple graph that explains google ranking factor.

So calm down and relax. Keep building your backlinks.
I suggest one or two backlinks a day is the pace that search engines love.

    Hope this helps.

One more thing I'd like to add to the already great info (ronsang's chart ...Sweet!) is make sure you're not resting.

Rest=rust and content is king, but FRESH content is Queen and we all want to keep the Queen happy, don't we?

This is the main reason why you must maintain your sites or pay some else to maintain them so that you can focus more on your business structure.

Just want to say thanks to everyone for all the advice, I've heard of the Google Dance / Bounce before, and thought it may be this however it's been approx 8-10 days now which is longer than before. However I suppose all I can do is keep building backlinks and doing the things which seem to work previously. On one of the sites I did purchse 25,000 forum profile backlinks which worked and then it started to slip again - so I thought it was this, however that didn't explain why it happened to both sites. I suppose more posts, articles and links will sort it out. Thanks again.

One suggestion if you are not already doing this is to track the number of back links you have over time - you may have lost a bunch that affected your rankings - though in the short time frame you mentioned it probably is the Google dance - good luck!

Thanks JT - I'm tracking my backlinks through Traffic Travis, which seems to give me a pretty good idea of where they are coming from, I have seen a big increase in backlinks over the last month or so. Must be the google dance, damn can't live with them, can't live without them

Just keep developing new fresh content that is value to your visitors. Add plenty of LSI terms and plenty of backlinking. The rest will happen by itself. It could take days, it could months, it totally depends on how competitive the niche is and also the amount of effort you put in.

    All the best
