Is this the right move for my site.

I have an exercise blog on blogspot. I have not been getting much traffic as I am starting to learn how to. I started to work on link building and blog commenting. I have been thinking about getting a domain name and switching to wodrpress. I also realized my current domain name has no keywords related to my blog name. Doesn't that hurt being found? Do you also think this move to wordpress is a good one. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

Moving your blog to Wordpress with it's own unique domain name is definitely the way to go.. That is, if you are targeting to get most of your traffic from the search engines.. You really don't see all that many blogs from blogspot ranking in the first page of Google for anything, obviously there are some exceptions..

But the most important thing is to have great unique content, no matter what the subject matter.. If your content is great and unique, you will definitely see other bloggers linking to it...

Good luck with the transition to a new platform..

It will be a great move once you have your own WP based blogs running with new domain name. There will not be any issue in not having the keywords as domain name while you have the option to include those keywords in the Meta tags. Do customize your Meta tags professionally matching to your blogs or content.

It is definitely highly advisable to get your own self hosted WP blog. Not only will it help with SERP rankings, it's also much more credible in the eyes of potential customers.

using your own domain and hosted site is your best choice. Its because you got full control of your site. With free blog hosting, once your site is earning big $$ and gets banned you will surely regret using free blog host.

Forget the free route because that will just slow your progress. In the IM world, to get anywhere significant you have to make investments.

Yes - you need keywords in your domain name without a doubt.

For a long time I was a strong advocate for Blogger and Blogspot. I've changed. I highly recommend using WordPress now but be careful to use WordPress ORG not WordPress COM as you are given more power that way.

Also check out a tool called Blog BluePrint which will walk you step by step through the process of becoming a success on the Web with your new WordPress ORG Website.
