Ranking and Earning- What are your experiences?

Warriors, I have been wandering around this forum for several weeks now and soaking up as much as I can. It's amazing how helpful you all have been.

Anyhow, I have a handful of keyword sites and one or two are ranking a bit and the others, while doing okay on Yahoo/Bing, are not even being picked up by Google after about two months despite relatively low competition and good on and off page optimization. As much fun as this adventure has been, I have yet to earn my first dollar. Nonetheless, I am still enthusiastic about the process.

So, I am wondering if more those more experienced in this could give us all some feedback as to how long their sites typically take to start to rank in the top 10 or 20 (dependent on competition) and how long it usually takes before they get a sale or a monetized click.

I would think that getting several responses might give us all some perspective and give everyone an idea as to whether we are operating above, below, or at the norm.

Thanks in advance for your input...

  • Well, with seo there isn't a "usually" to be honest. Depending on the offpage seo you've done (because that accounts for rankings in a large portion), it can take months or weeks to rank on the first page for your target keywords. It's weird though that you haven't even been picked up after 1-2 months by google. Can you find your site with the site:yoursite.com command? Have you done anything onpage that might have pissed off google?

In terms of earnings, that depends on a lot of factors as well. Did you write decent copy? Are you trying to rank for keywords that will bring in targeted visitors, not just visitors? Are you selling something on your site that has demand? When someone comes to your site, will they be confused or is there a clear path for them to get to the buy button?

I hope these few questions give you something to look into.

BacklinkExcellence, thanks for your reply. My sites are indexed by Google. I can't help but wonder if part of my problem is that the sites that are not ranking are .info and .biz and the ones that are ranking are .net and .com. Still, I would have expected the non-ranking sites to show up in the Top 1000 as competition for them all is somewhat low at around 30-40k sites. I don't think the sites are set up to draw Google's ire.

None of these sites sell anything and the copy is good, but not great. I'm not expecting Top 10 or anything for these sites yet, but I would have expected to find Top 1000 for the domains which are exact name keywords.

I am mainly just curious about general experiences that others have had. I am trying to formulate my game plan based on successes and failures and looking to find out what is normal and what isn't. I suspect that my ranking sites, which took about a month are normal, and the ones which have not are not normal.

    • Well, the fact the the info's/biz's aren't ranking is interesting. I don't have the link but lately Google stated again that they give less ranking value to .info's though I have info's still ranking myself so not sure if that is the issue. Did you do anything different on those .info's than your .com's/.net's? If in question, only register com/net/org in the future.

I can and have taken sites from hardly any rankings to the front pages of Google, Yahoo, BING, Ask & Altavista in less than a month without any on-page optimization (SEO). Don't get me wrong here... On-Page SEO is important for ultimate success. It's just that off-page strategies like link building are so much more valuable. Ultimately you want to work the both together with an emphasis on Twitter and FaceBook Pages.

I'll be releasing a new course that outlines my strategies very soon right here on the WF. Be watching, it will be of extreme value to all in this regard.

If you haven't heard of link towers yet it would be best for you to consider this type of strategy. Simply put you start with your main Website build a blog or something that points to that and advertise the blog. This is really making the strategy simple, but it doesn't have to be much more complicated than that to make it work.

I think you're talking about link pyramids.
