are these significantly more powerful than .coms?

If you post your link on other blogs too much will google penalize you?

    In terms of acquiring links?
    Or having the site rank?

I have heard (I don't know) that an edu/gov link has 100 times more power than a .com link. Too much is always too much, the question is "what is too much" and I have no idea about that.

lol, "100 times", pretty specific measurement of an algorithm we don't have access to.

Here is the deal (and I go over this more specifically in the free WSO I just released)

      There is correlation, not causation.

.edu and .gov's are usually quality links and pass a lot of link juice because they are usually quality sites.

      Good site = good link
      Poor site = poor link
Regardless of the top level domain.

There is a debate on this issue. Many believe that they are more important than the rest, while others believe the opposite.

I personally believe that they are very important because these domains often have a high PR and good content.

Not really worth your thought guy.

They are generally a b#$@h to find, and are ultimately unnecessary.

Backlinks from .edu .gov websites have some more value. But avoid edu.xx and gov.xx

Are all .edu and .gov sites "do follow"? How do you find a "do follow"?
    Cheers

I don't think that .edu and .gov links are inherently more valuable. However, they tend to be well monitored to keep out spam, which means when you do get a link it can provide a solid benefit.

If .edu and .gov domains were inherently the best extensions in the world then their sites would always been at the top of the SERPs and they definitely aren't.

They mostly are 'nofollow' so even the .edu site itself does not get much 'linkjuice'. They don't usually rank high in the search engines although they may have a PR7-8-9.

.edu and .gov are more powerful than .com but its very difficult to find so many backlinks from .edu and .gov sites
