Can anyone explain why there is a discrepancy between estimated earnings and payments?

Example: In January my estimated earnings was $224 but the payout was only $103.

Why such a difference?

For some reason Adsense withholds a portion of your earnings and doesnt pay out the full amount each month.

But don't worry you did make $224 but don't get it all at once.

The estimated earnings include money earned since you last qualified for a payment. Cutoff date is the end of the month - so at the end of January you would receive money earned through the end of December. This is fully explained in your adsense account.

At the end of February you receive money earned through Jan 31...assuming you earn over $100 or whatever you have your payout set to.

Just found this Question and answer in my google adsense account FAQ. Hope it answers your question!

What's the difference between estimated and finalized earnings?

Estimated earnings reflect close estimates of your recent account activity. Your Reports pages all show estimated earnings, so we can give you a rough idea of your recent performance as soon as possible. Finalized earnings are accurate earnings amounts that include all revenue owed to you for all valid activity. At the end of each month, our records are processed and verified, then finalized earnings are posted to your Payments page.

"Estimated Earning" is the projection of the earning at the end of the month.

You will get details about this in this page:

"Estimated Earning" is not your actual earning.
