With regards to keyword/ product research. When scouting out new potential marketing opps do you do keyword research first then find the products to support, or find products in niches you like to promote then do the keyword research?

That's a good question. What I have done most recently is started with products and then done the keyword research after I have a listing of products. I used Market Samurai to guage my competition.

Is both an acceptable answer? Normally, I will do keyword research to narrow down a topic area that looks promising, then choose the products to promote, then do the specific keyword research for the site and the products.

Yep, as Andrew said, they both go hand-in-hand. Use both approaches to continually brainstorm new ideas. You will find that ocne you get started you will find products you never thought of, and from those products you will find other articles that you never thought of (maintenaince, how to guides etc).

Those articles can then lead you back to the start of the circle again. Read a lot about your niche and you'll be amazed what opportunites are available - even if you just start with a couple of product ideas.

well in my case, I first find the products which I like to promote before doing keyword research. That would definitely help me in choosing the best keywords that would work for my promotional methods.

In most cases, I do the keyword research first. You can almost always find a good product to match a solid market that you identify.

I think when you find the product first, you can become emotionally attached. You'll sometimes talk yourself into keywords that are borderline at best because they fit this product that you really want to promote.

First you need to create a list of products that you are going to sell. Based on your products perform a keywords research(analyse competition, searches on keywords), and you also require to perform competitors' analysis to better analyse your targeted market.
