Taking on the BIG GIANTS for highly-competitive keywords in search results... HOW HOW HOW???

Hello Warriors,

So, as the thread title says it... Let's say I'm setting up a new website (running on WordPress) targetting a few high-competition (and of course fairly highly-searched) keywords where search results are hovering in a range of 30,000,000-500,000,000.

I have the site set to post 1 unique article per day, for the next 50 days. On-page SEO is taken care of. It's now all about building sufficient backlinks to take on the biggies. What process would you suggest? What things would you suggest me to do in order to build a heavy amount of backlinks over the next 50 days to rank somewhere in Page 1 for the desired keyword(s)?

The idea is to monetize the site with AdSense, won't be doing list building initially.

Please advise

    Know your competition.

Look up the top competition on Alexa, and find out what and where their backlinks are. Work by hand to get your own backlinks from the places where they are getting their best, highest ranking backlinks, then use a service or software to fill out the number of your backlinks after you have created the ones that matter by hand.

One other thing. On page SEO is only taken care of if your article quality is as high or higher than the content of the top competition. You cannot win the Indy 500 by driving a car made of cheap parts.

If you create just one post per day but it is of the highest quality and totally unique, you have a winner because it will get syndicated all over the web thus gaining you rich contextual backlinks from within your niche. You cannot beat this.

Sorry but that's just pie in the sky thinking....just because you write a good article does not mean you are going to get your content syndicated all over the web.

Personally I think you could be wasting your time if you competition is overly competitive, it's quite hard to say without knowing what phrase you are targeting.

I am not blowing my trumpet but I am saying this from experience. I used to blog avidly on SEO on wide range of topics. Only after that did I realise that people like my posts and appreciated it by leaving nice comments. These posts got syndicated all over the web in the SEO sphere. Normally I would not want to talk about this. But this is pointedly to your reference. If you have not done it, then you will neither realize the power of the method nor your potential

That's just great then, so all I need to do is find an expert to write fantastic content and I will automatically rank well in the serps......I really didn't know it was that easy! ......... yeah right

If you blogged so much on SEO then you should know what your are talking about is pie in the sky......there are many factors which contribute to good serps both on and off page .....good content isn't necessarily one of them, there are plenty of crap content sites that rake in money and rank on the top of Google for their respective terms...

He could hire the best content writer in the world and slap them up on his site and it aint going to do jack unless he does a LOT of other stuff as well!...especially when it's a highly competitive keyword as he said it is....

You're already on the way to fail if you think you can compete in an competitive marketing with an auto blog or scraped content.

You can, but NOT with an "auto post" site...

WordPress gives me the option to drip feed content. I've written

I have the site set to post 1 unique article per day
(the part you missed out reading, I guess )

I'm a content writer afterall (going by my sig.), think it was safe for you to assume I wasn't going to be doing auto-content.

      Hope that clears the smoke

I used to make $1k a month with adsense. (on complete auto-pilot)

However, you do not want to rely on this alone. Build your list from the beginning.

The absolute best way to learn SEO is to test things out for yourself instead of believing anything/everything you read.

Set up 3 or 4 simple WP sites and experiment. Prove/disprove to yourself what works and what doesn't.

This is exactly what I did. It took me around 8 months to get the basics in place. I'm still learning every day but what I've tested so far and know to work is paying back handsomely.

What niche are you talking. really depends on that, there are some that you won't rank high in 50 days if you hire the whole country of India.

Haha... John, you have quite a sense of humour.

I thought we're in the SEO section of the site. But, I get it... you're "addict"ed to the word SEO (no offence)

When quality content is created and is reader worthy and unique and interesting, it gets SYNDICATED on other sites because it is top notch. There is no question of building backlinks in this case because syndication does exactly that. This is what I am talking about. THought leaders like Danny Sullivan do not go about building backlinks to what they write because their content gets passed around and generates backlinks. If one strives to reach such a level, it can be done. This is what I am trying to say

I know what you are trying to say but the likes of Danny Sullivan or Frank Kern are considered AUTHORITIES in their field and that is why their content is syndicated, just for that reason!

Mr Joe Smoe who comes along and tries to build their website in a competitive niche does not have the luxury of being an expert and having people activily seeking out their content do they, they are like everyone else, how the heck does their content get syndicated when no one knows about it???

That's why I stand by my statement that by putting just the highest quality content on your site does NOT mean you will get good serps, there is far more to SEO than just that!

Hey Ravi (raviv) and Terry (terryd),

I think both of you bring up an interesting point. If I may take the liberty to draw a line of mutual understanding on this, I think the point is article syndication (as a by-product of super-high quality content) is one of the factors for successful SEO results. Of course, it needs also a credible/authoritative person behind the content. When coupled, it can become very powerful as just about everybody in the said industry/niche takes note of it.

            Is my understanding here correct?

Hoping it to be a YES, I think I'll open up another thread in an appropriate section on the site, as neither this section nor this thread would be the right place for it. Thanks for that trigger of thought

            Regards,
            theultimate1

Perhaps people like Sullivan have a large optin list that they announce each blog post to, vastly increasing the likelihood their posts will be read, commented on and passed around.
