    Yes...I ping.

    I'll be the first one to openly admit that I have a cronic ping addiction. I'm not ashamed and neither is the rest of the group that relish in esculated traffic stats. I cronically abuse my RSS feed with daily pings, too. And, as a result, Goog has blessed me with many hourly visits and the spreading of my sites content virally.

    You should ping after a major update, so the search engines know you have new content.

    dont really mean about pinging my site,mainly to do with the backlinks,if i think about it lgoically it seems that if pinging was bad or you could be penalised for it then would you just ping the **** out of your comeptiros to get them penalized?i think il go for it

      Where are all you ppl hearing this crap?

      There is not one single site that I have come across that has been penalized by Google for pinging.

      And...just to blow some feathers back in place...here's one fact:

      Google is NOT in the business of penalizing. It is in the business of providing relevant search results requested by a user. That is it, nothing more and certainly nothing less.


      and as far as for backlinking...not upfront. It won't happen like you are implying. The benefit of a backlink, if you have good enough and worthy content...you Might get a backlink value. The backlinking benefit comes as a end result benefit through other means.
