Social bookmarking - a newbie question

I have been learning a little here and there about IM for a while now. Social bookmarking is one step that always confuses me. I know what it is but exactly how do you do it? Is it meant to be a description that is an article or paragraph, etc.. about your webpage? Do you need to write something different in the description box of each one of your bookmarks that you do?:confused:If you write the same thing in the description box at each social bookmarking site, isn't that considered duplicate content by google?

    well if you can write different description for each bookmaking site tht will be good just include your keywords in your description OR if you are lazy in writing new description each time then you can use 1 description in 4-5 sites then write new one

    Duplicate content is mostly about having the same content on your own site in more than one place.

    You can certainly vary what you write in the various social bokmarking accounts, it sure won't hurt anything, but it will take a bit more time.

    Social bookmarking sites may rank for some particular keyword phrases or stories, but probably not without a lot of work. Or not without somebody influential picking up the story and syndicating it around to their followers.

    I think it is good practice to always try and change your content. On the other hand it is very easy to use a software to submit to many sites at once. I do know that in most cases, Google will never display identical information in any search engine position that produces lots of traffic (Position 1 through 5). The only situation I can think this happens regularly is when you get a double listing and Google usually has a reason for a double listing (Until it disappears).

    I am very interested to know if any Warriors have actually tested this out. Does it hurt your website or help your website by using duplicate bookmarking content.

        I have heard good things about socialmarker com. There is also a paid service I have heard good things about called socialmaximizer com.

        I use SocialMarker and OnlyWire regularly with my sites. Both are totally free and easy to use once you get them set up. You just need to take a little bit of time at first to create accounts at all the social bookmarking sites you want to use with them. Both SocialMarker and OnlyWire have a list of sites they will bookmark to, so you don't even have to search around for sites to sign up with. They're both really good tools.

    Back in the day Social Bookmarking was great in the SE's but now doesn't carry any weight. The traffic is sends is pretty junk from what I see but it does help with indexing pages quicker and SERP position in the short term depending on what you are trying to rank for.

    You can bookmark the same content to different social bookmarking sites. It will not consider by Google as duplicate content. It is also a brief description about something you're promoting. If it is an article, well make a brief description about your article and post it. If it is your website, make a brief description of that particular site and post it.
