Best setup for SEO on multilingual - multidomain Wordpress site

Here is my dilemma:
I need to setup a bilingual site using WP (wordpress) - I want to optimize the structure for SEO, so that each domain name's keyword would have a positive impact on my SEO efforts. I also want to be able to manage everything through one single WP install, and possibly have a way to create 2 posts in each language through a same dashboard view.

Example:
french domain: maisonsenkit.com to be used for various SEO on terms related to "maisons en kit" keyword
english domain: kitconstruction.com to be used ....terms related to "kit construction" keywords
the sites would have almost symetrical content but in a different language.

I was looking at WP multiuser plugins like wpmudev.org's WP multi domains or WP domain mapping, but to be honest I am rather unsure if it does what I need nor which one to chose - let alone how to configure the MU to make it work.

Anybody understands how this could be setup to fit my needs?

My main concern is SEO...

thanks
~F

PS: I do have asked some questions to the WPMUdev support team but no conclusive answer has been given to me...

If you main concern is SEO then I'd do way with the .com and go with a .fr and get a host in France for it. The SE's will love you for it.

If you host your site in your target country or if you have multiple directory listings using a physical address in your target country (the same as displayed on the website) and linked to your website, then Google ends up acknowledging you are in that geolocation. At least it worked for one of my clients that has a .com and a US hosting, but after doing a canadian directory submission helped Google link the SERPS to the Canadian pages results.

does any of you SEO experts have experience with multidomains in a WP multisite install?

What does domain mapping actually do that could affect SEO?

        thanks for any feedback...

I actually have the same problem. But if you have two sites that means double effort to maintain.

I experimented with the qTranslate wordpress plugin which knows everything that we need, except for the fact that one article has one url - the different languages don't get separate urls in posts.

    Any help?

thanks - if using qtranslate means that a single url for 2 articles then it won`t work for me - I need different keyword rich URLs for each language. What about setting different permalinks? maybe using the multisite feature of WP 3.0 plus a domain mapping would solve the URL problem?
