Hi, Adsense pros.

I want to add a poup in an Adsense site using the Popup domination wordpress plugin. Is this against Google Adsense TOS?

Publishers aren't permitted to place ads on sites which have more than three pop-ups. If pop-ups are displayed on a website, they may not interfere with site navigation, change user preferences, initiate downloads, or distribute viruses.

Additionally, sites with Google AdSense may not be loaded by any software that triggers pop-ups, modifies browser settings, redirects users to unwanted websites, or otherwise interferes with normal site navigation. It is your responsibility to ensure that no ad network or affiliates use such methods to direct traffic to pages that contain your AdSense code.

They also can't cover adsense ads.

Popups are a bad idea for an adsense page anyway. Not a good user experience.
Even though they allow it, sometimes you have to read between the lines.

Google really wants you website to shine for adsense, not some other program.

Are you planning on using Google adsense whilst also promoting an opt-in offer or affiliate program? most people using Google adsense as their monetization option (primary) find a pop-up takes away from their click rate and increases their bounce-rate.

I would never run popups like that while running Adsense on the same page.

You could however do a 50/50 split test on the page that gets the heaveist traffic, either run the popup or Adsense but never both at the same time on the same page.

So say your running the popup only on the home page (heavy traffic), then only run Adsense on the other pages & no popup.

Or, just run the popup email optin on the Index page for a couple of weeks (no Adsense on the same page) & see what happens with new email optins. That would give you a better idea If the popup is even worth having long term.

Again, I wouldn't run both on the same page, at the same time, that's just me.

I've yet to see a pop convert high enough that I'd ever run one on a site that earns any money. Maybe my copy just sucks or whatever, but I had the plugin you're speaking of (which does exactly what it says).

Converted 500% worse than a side bar opt-in on the same page.

        Lol, that sucks.

That's why I suggested to split test, you never know what will work until you actually test it.

I run Feedburner email optin forms on every single page of all my Adsense sites, one in the sidebar, another optin in the footer. I don't really update 2 of the sites & still get email optins just about everyday.

Yeah, I think one of the things people need to do more of is actual controlled testing. Not just random tests with tiny samples, but true controlled statistically significant tests. I think they'd be surprised.

Just as an example on that lightbox opt-in form. I ran it for like 3 weeks, I think it was about 2,400 impressions or something. Not a ton, but enough. During that time I had my all other opt-ins turned off.

That thing converted at 1.5% or something.

Using same copy, I put my side bar back in, took out the lightbox and got like 8% or whatever.

Now, it wasn't a huge test. But for that particular site visitors sure didn't like being interrupted.

I guess they work in some niches though. I see them everywhere....
