Keyword research-Google Search Based keyword tool vs. Adwords keyword tool

Why is the global monthly searches different for a particular keyword in each of these keywords tools by google (search-based and adwords)? For example, for the word 'beer brewing' the search-based tool says it gets monthly searches and the adwords says 74,000 global monthly searches and 60,500 local. That is a big difference between the two.

        I would always use exact unless looking for more ideas using broad.

          So, the search based keyword tool is exact?
          Also, what parameters do people usually use for exact, such as minimum monthly searches?

    Hi,

    The one thing that noone talks about is that the number of searches also get shared. For example, 'keyword written this way' will often show the same number of searches as 'keyword this way written'. The numbers therefore can only ever be a guide and should be treated as such. The other thing is that MOST page 1 listings will still only get around 3% of the clicks and I suspect that figure is even less now that Google have faded their ad background colours to near white...
