Should I Link To Every Page From My Homepage?

Hi Guys,
I have a faily large site (150 + pages), and was wondering if i should link to every page from my homepage. This is from an SEO standpoint, would it even help?

Also, I read somewhere that you should link to no more than 100 pages from any page on your site, as per googles webmaster guidelines. I'll see if i can find the link to support that.

    No it's not needed at all, why should you do such a thing after all? Take the example of forums, they have tens of thousands of content pages, are all of them linked to from their index or main pages? Definitely not. Using your navigational menus, attempt to link to the major pages from which the inner sections can be reached.

    The inner links structures are having very slight impacts on your website overall performance on its search engines ranks because today the off page links are the big players in the SEO world. You can easily create some HTML or XML sitemap pages and then search engines as well as people would find your important content pages with ease.

      Ok, your argument makes sense. But i noticed one of my competitors outranking me for practically every keyword, and he has links to every page from his homepage.

      I have also checked his backlinks, and he has very few pointing to the pages, some do not even have a link to them.

      Just wondering, well see what happens.

    Hey Rob,

    you don´t have to link to every page from your home page.
    I mean how could this humanly be possible?

    You would have to use the main keywords and related keywords
    to link to each page, means you would need 100 keywords in one
    piece of content which would be your home page.

    Let it appear as natural as possible. Mix things up and link from
    web 2.0 properties to your posts and pages, and of course also
    home page using the main keyword an related keywords.

    A healthy mixture makes the difference!

      150 pages is a little large, but no problem.

      All my sites have a left sidebar with links to all articles.
      Yes, it is less than 150, but come on. It's common practice.

      In fact, every page I have has the same sidebar, header, and footer.
      Very easy using php. Every page has a header graphic linking back to
      the main page. I follow the same format as school-grants.org
      Very, very, very, nice way of creating an authority site

      If you think that's too large, break it up in groups of 50 that have the
      same 50 sidebar links, with the main page having the majority of each
      category and a link to the main page of each category.

      The 100 links only is for a better user experience only. No penalty.

      You need a short link tree off the main page to each and every article.

    Link to the pages that make sense with user friendly navigation. My preference is for top down navigation.

    Then be sure that you have a good working sitemap and submit that map to Google Webmaster.

    Most people don't realize that sites that make money seldom have the Homepage as the entrance page. Because Google ranks Pages and not Sites the most relevant page will appear in search.

    So it's your job to use a sitemap so the Search Engines know about your content.
