I am some what new to backlinking and I have been commenting on blogs and leaving good content, writing articles and submitting them, and I have just started do profile links on forums. How many links is ok to leave in a forum profile? I have been just leaving one in the signature box to my site, can I do more than that.

Thanks

yes you wouldn't want to put anymore than 2 but one is probably better as the more you have the more spammy it looks, one way to do this and I dont know if its a good or bad thing to do but just create different accounts and put your different links into each account. I can't say that this works though but its worth a try i suppose.

Three links are good for every forum. But there should not be more than three.

You must read the rules for every forums to know how many links you can insert in it and after how much time. Most of the forums allow 2 backlinks and some also allow three.

Don't put more than 2 signatures, if you use BH methods you can put 3 or more but there's a risk of ban to spam.

Ultimately it's up to the mods to decide what is appropriate or not, depending on circumstances.

Two would be the most suitable option IMO. I don't know if there is a limit for that though.

I have been putting 1 in forum profiles for a couple of months now (over 100 in total across my sites) but not one shows up on Yahoo or backlinkwatch. Can anyone shed any light on this?

      Cheers

You need to get your profile pages indexed mate, try creating a rss feed with 50 items, each linking to one of the profile pages and submit it to a rss feed directory like feedage.com. Once you submit your rss feed you will get a page with links to your 50 profiles and then you have to get that page indexed.

Here is an example of an rss feed created to get profile pages indexed the diet plan - Feedage - 19023949.

Please note this is not my feed, just posted it to give you an idea of what I am talking about. One major problem with this feed that all items have the same title "the diet plan", every item in your feed should have a different title so that it looks natural.

I do 2 links, the more you put links on it the more you convince the reader to read it.

You can add a maximum of three links but I think the safest way is to add just one link in your profile. By adding just one link you will nearly always slip under the radar of mods looking to delete accounts inactive members who have signed up simply to add links to their profile.

Ive heard both ways, Brad Callens mindset on the matter leans towards one. He seems to think that adding three can sometimes suffer from a lucrative spam deduction to the juice that the backlinks are getting. Makes sense to me, because if Google probably protects themselfs in some very interesting ways, such as adding 4,5,6.. backlinks to a couple of pages and you could cheat the system, so it seems just as skeptical for three i would say

I recommend you to use up to 3 backlinks/profile but also don`t use different URL.
I suggest to all my clients to use 1 domain and 2 inner pages with spinned anchor texts. Putting all eggs in one basket leaves footprints.

    Hope i could help ^^

For more information about how to proper do this linkbuilding technique you can see my sales services in signature... Take a look and see how i do it cuz this method brings good results.

Sorry for the dumb question but is just signing up with a link in your sig enough? Or do you have to post in the forum? If so how many posts? The more the better, or is one enough?
    Thanks and sorry again.

There are no dumb questions mate

Now to answer your question, if the site you are linking to in your signature is related to the theme of the forum then you can go ahead and post on a popular thread, it will help in getting your profile indexed. One post one a popular thread should be good enough to get your profile indexed. If there is an option of a 'thanks' button(like we have it here on the warriorforum), you can click that on useful posts too. However, if the site in your signature has got nothing to do with the theme of the forum then it is best to slip under the radar of the mods by not posting at all or you risk being labeled a spammer and having your profile deleted.

I think most people in hear have a sheep mentality who are all saying "no more than 2" "only leave one" LOL

Personally if the site is heavily moderated, dont leave ANY... for at least a week or two until new members push your profile down on the member list and away from the mods line of sight.

If the site is hardly moderated (only profiles I go for) then post as many flipping links as you want! I post 10+ on some profiles in the Bio sections. I surround the links around content to make them contextual and add two additional links pointing to two other forum profiles. This way if this profile gets crawled it will follow two other of my profiles and insure each one gets indexed.

There are so many forums out there at have been abandoned by moderators who care about new members its not even funny!

OBL (outbound links) are a joke as far as passing of link juice is concerned in my opinion and never worry about how many links are on a page.

I also build a few PR4+ links to each profile to give it a boost.

Oh and also pick my user name as my main keyword so it appears in the title tag and appears to be a relevant page to google.
