      Check Google webmaster tools to see which of the bookmarking is showing up as a backlink, and also Cpanel, and this will give you a tip on what you should max out on. It doesnt seem to be as powerful as 3 years ago, however it is still an important activity. I use a Onlywire plugin that automatically bookmarks any new post, as well SocialBot. There are lots of auto bookmarking solutions.

    Bookmarking is optional for me. No point of driving tonnes of traffic if you're not directly targeting the right audience and converting them into sales.
    I prefer driving 100 people and converting 50% of them into sales VS driving 100,000 who's just there to browse my site (this would be a waste of my bandwidth I would say). But it's a great way to index your site faster though. But in terms of backlinking, these sites are potentially spammed with links, so links from these sites are useless and you don't get value from them.

    With very little marketing and only one link out to Reddit (A bookmarking site) I received almost 600 clicks in a single day on a site that had been getting 50 to 100 daily visits. The highest amount of clicks for this site previous had been about 110 and never anywhere near 500. Thus I conclude that bookmarking and other link building strategies are indeed very important.

    You can always add more strategies to your backlinking plan.
    Bookmarking ones site, post, video etc, under many different
    bookmarking sites builds trust my Google, it means that your site
    is increasing in popularity.

    Would definitely integrate it to the backlinking strategy.
