I can recommend a great cooking theme, but that won't help you if you aren't in the cooking business. How about giving a bit more information, so we can give you appropriate recommendations!

The problem with "free" templates is that they are not free. Far too many have links to the the designer or the designer's clients. You just become an advertising vehicle for them if you follow their TOS which is usually "leave the links alone."

Those links distract buyers. I think it is best to invest in a good SEO sensitive theme like Thesis. There are lots of Adsense plug-ins you can use.

I don't use it myself, but I've heard some good things about the "HeatMap Adsense Theme".

Here's a link to the download page: WordPress › HeatMap Adsense Theme « Free WordPress Themes

There are also a small number of themes that specify they are Adsense ready in the list of free themes at wordpress.org.

Here's a link to the search results for adsense: WordPress › Free WordPress Themes

And of course, you can do a Google search. I recommend using quotes, like this: "free wordpress themes" adsense ready

I just spent some time myself looking for a theme, and downloaded several to try. I did not notice the issue Don mentioned, but all the themes I downloaded came off the wordpress site.

I don't think it is unacceptable to have a link in the footer to the designer. But I agree you don't want to use any themes that have additional links that can't be removed.

      I hope this helps,

Quite frankly I have found the stock "Kubrick" theme to work the best. White and blue, for some reason, is a combination that cannot be beat.

On another note I tried then Prosense theme and my CTR went down on several of my top sites. But the reviews have been very good so maybe that particular theme just did not work for my specific niches.

After being in Internet marketing for four 3 years now I am fully convinced that the best theme will change with different niches. There is no "one size fits all" adsense theme, unfortunately.

There are a ton of these in the war room and any simple theme that is not full of images will do. You just want something clean with one or two columns and you will be fine. Remember you might have to test a few before you find one that converts really well for your niche.
