Running Out Of Backlinks!

I am pretty new to SEO and have only been running my blog for just over eight months.

I feel like I have learned a lot with regards to link building and have developed a strategy that seems to get my pages to the first page of Google within a few days of me targeting keywords.

I am always just off the top spot however and I am rapidly running our of places to build high quality links in my niche (I own a Running and Fitness blog).

My current strategy is outlined below and I was hoping that someone could take a look and suggest what else I can do to generate some high quality links to boost my SERPs just that little bit more

1) Write and a high quality article that gets indexed within a few hours
2) Post relevant posts in Running and Fitness related forums and insert backlinks into posts. I post in 15-20 high PR Running and Fitness forums and cannot find any other relevant forums.
3) Write another article on the same subject as my blog article and spend time creating high quality spun articles with which I submit to twenty of the top dofollow article directories and Wordpress blogs.
4) Use CommentLuv to generate another dozen or so do follow links.
5) Use BuildMyRank.com to build an additional ten links a day for two days.

This takes a lot of time to do for just one article so I was wondering if there was an easier way for me to link to my page that actually works. I am fully prepared to put the time into generating back links but if you think that there is something that I should/shouldn't be doing then please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Nobody can simplify your writing, but I'm pretty sure that you can automate the distribution of your articles. That a "script" puts the new article in all the blog etc... that "routine" work can be done by a system. We implement systems. We are a company from Monterrey, Mexico and have a lot of experience in administrative system development. If you want we will analyze your case. You find the link to the company in my signature.

You do seem to be working quite hard, and that's fantastic. Slackers get nowhere fast.

However, I think you may be working under the false assumption that "relevant backlinks" are the only things that are going to help you. Frankly, most of my backlinks are quite irrelevant, which make automation much simpler.

Not saying you should go that far, however, there is a middle ground there somewhere I think.

      Are you sure?

Do you know "how he is writing his articles now"? If so, I overlooked that part of his post.

One way to simplify writing is to do better research and create a better outline.

Another way is to hire professional writers to do that work for you.

I honestly don't think we understand enough about how he is writing articles to be able to definitively say that he would be able to simplify the writing process...

      Just my 2 cents...

Ross, have you thought about building your own syndicate?

Run some searches on the articles you've submitted to directories, and see if they are being picked up and re-published on relevant sites. If they are, contact the site owner and ask if they would like to receive new articles as you produce them. Essentially, you are building an article distribution list. When you have new content available, send it to the site owners that respond positively.

I haven't used them for awhile, but there used to be several Yahoo groups set up for article distribution as well. That could get you some additional syndication.

You also haven't mentioned leaving quality, relevant comments on high-traffic or high-authority blogs.

In a market niche as broad as running and fitness, I can't imagine running out of places to look for backlinks...

Later on, you might want to try X-rumer. It has never let me down, so I doubt it will let you down.

Link exchanges. How many sites do you have related to running?

Also try out linkbuilding tools and sites for some ideas.

You mentioned using CommentLuv. You can also find a lot of blogs to comment on simply by typing your niche keyword into Google and then click on Blogs. I really don't think you will have a shortage of blogs to comment on in the running/fitness niche. In my experience, this is also a good way to get very targeted direct traffic, in addition to the SEO benefits.

You might also want to give Blog Catalog / The best blogs of all time a look.

Outsource some of the writing stuff for example those that you want to distribute.
Teach someone exactly how you want them to be.

For distribution use either senuke which allows Web2.0 and top article directories either AMR ( article marketing robot )

I would suggest to send some low quality backlinks to those inner properties like blogs comments or xrumer profiles.

    Use Yahoo Answers ?
You might find this a good idea...

Also try to do forum posting on related websites.
Search forums in your niche and use backlinks in signature...

    Hope i could help !

You've mentioned a couple of good ways of building backlinks, article and forum marketing, but its scratching the surface.

    Don't forget:

    - Blog commenting
    - Guest blogging, especially when you know so much about your topic.
    - Video's (create your own or use animoto or something similar)
    - Answer pages (Yahoo etc, its no follow but you should have some no follow links to your site)
    - Sitewide links, see if you can offer something valuable enough to a web site owner to put a permanent link in their sidebar so that your link appears on every page of their site, it can be better than content links
    - Twitter, facebook, linkdin, all no follow but backlink and traffic potential
    - Profile links
    - Press releases
    - Hubpages, Squidoo, Weebly, Wordpress, Knols
    - Syndication, feedburner for your main site, submit your feed, author feeds, hubpage feeds, squidoo feeds etc. Get BigMike's rss.bot for this, and save yourself a heap of time.

Plenty of work still to be done there mate, and I still haven't named them all.

You can buy link packages (300-3000 links) depending on link quality and PageRank for $ 10-20.

Awesome effort! You might want to consider outsourcing some aspects of your writing. Please do not overlook the irrelevant backlinks. Even this types of backlinks maintain at least a small level of importance.

those strategies you are currently doing is good enough to generate inbound links. You just have to consider a few minimal factors such as the quality of the content, and the keywords and link placement in your title and body.

  • You'll never run out of links. Use a good keyword tool to reverse engineer other sites and find out where they get their links from. This doesn't even have to be your competition. Find a subject you are interested in and find out how the top 10 in Google are getting their links. Then add yours where you can to high PR blogs etc.
