Hi,
Maybe someone can shed some light on this before I spent alot of time of backlinks etc.

Background:
I have a one page wordpress blog targeting about 4 niche keywords (all related to each other tightly.
It has been live for 4 days.
I have only have 4 backlinks consisting of 2 social bookmarks, and 2 niche related blog posts.

My rankings for these keywords vary from rank #50 to #300 on google.

Monthy google queries for the keywords are 300 to 2000 per month.

Question is:
If there was an average of 30,000 results in quotes in google for each keyword phrase, would I have a good chance of working up to top 5 with some work.....considering, my site is 4 days old and only has one page (but will have more?

I hope I made sense, this my first time trying to properly rank.

thanks in advance

    Yes of course you can!

Only 4 backlinks? Build some more and you will own that niche. Just remember to stay consistent in you link building efforts - do not over do it (in short bursts).

Go for it, especially if you think that those keywords will be worth it in the end.

Thanks, I'll definately keep at it.

I've been just doing one or 2 links a day...a little paranoid..how many per day should be the max?

no max, as long as you do them yourself, that way you wont spam the system with junk links from nonsense tools.
I sometimes get 20-30 a day, however they are all natural, so they do me lot's of good when it comes to ranking higher for my keywords.

It's just like opening a new store you cannot get the attention of the people unless you do something about it. Same with SEO you need to work for it to achieve a top position.

There is really no maximum links per day as not all links are equal
Your site is new, so keep building 5-10 links per day and it will be ok. Social bookmark your site, write some articles and post them in article directories etc. But also remember to post more content to your website, the best would be to post a new post every few days. It's important, I have a site in one niche, it was ranking 15-17 depends on day, I was building links but it wasn't getting highier, then I posted ONE new post on it (also wp blog ) and the next day I was ranking number 9

I was wondering about how much a new post would help rankings..looks like it will help me when I do the second post and more..I'm impatiently waiting one week for the second post for now....I have 3 more ready to go in wordpress but have them auto timed for publishing.

after only a few more backlinks....most of my organic rankings are higher than 200 rather than 300....
      and...interestingly...google "with" quotes....4 of my rankings are #7 #1 #8 and #3

      thats progress right? I think?

Look, there is no single answer to this. I have had a site rank #1 without any single backlink (0 backlink) simply because the term was not competitive at all - the competition was practically zero and I had got hold of keyword.com.

Again, I have had other sites with thousands of backlinks but still not on page 1 (working on them slowly).

And in reality, I've seen, I can always get to #1 if I want to and try to. There has been no exception to this. The only catch is that how much overall horsepower does it need to become #1 and do I see enough returns on investment (not all terms are equally lucrative).

Right now, for example, I'm working on a super-competitive keyword (I work on many super-competitive keywords but I'm citing one as example here for your understanding) - that has climbed to page-2 in the last 44 days to be precise, but again literally it has received I don't know how many but definitely more than 50,000 backlinks to say the very least (probably closer to 100,000), right from quite a few PR-6 onpage links downto tons of PR 0 and PR N/A links. I'm talking about a keyword where allintlte:keyword is 500K+ in Google.com, in case you know what I mean.

So, the bottom line is that, there is no one answer. But keep building the links, see what works and you are going to reach the first page soon. From what you say, you seem to have a not-too-competitive keyword.
