Question about exact match domain names?

I had a question about exact match domain names and if they can target 2 keyword phrases effectively?

for example if you wanted to build a site about quilting
and you did your keyword research and came back with 2 main phrases that you wanted to target
"learn quilting" and "quilting for fun"

could you build a site that targeted those 2 main phrases effectively with a domain name like "learn quilting for fun"
and optimize the landing page for both the keyword phrases
learn quilting and quilting for fun
so you could get high listings for people searching for:
"learn quilting"
and
"quilting for fun"

would something like this be effective?

thanks for any imput

Yes but you'll need backlinks to rank it well. Exact match domains arent as powerful as they used to be - only when using non competitive keywords.

I suspect the effectiveness will be diluted, as changing "quilting for fun" to "quilting for fun guide" does.

You can still create separate pages optimized for different keywords.

To my way of thinking, you'd be better off starting a site with more or less just "quilting" in the domain. As non-specific as you can find.

The reason is, "quilting for fun" will be just one aspect of the overall category, and easy to rank as a long tail for the main domain word.

But if you have an EMD for "quilting is fun", how much harder will it be to optimize for 'quilting for profit' or some other market you may decide to enter. You really don't want separate sites for every keyword you come across. IMO.

Also, with a good 'base' domain you can (and I think should) explore sub doamins. Many SEO'ers ignore them, but look at some of the largest sites on the 'Net and see how they use sub-domains effectively. Google cetainly doesn't ignore them.

Could be equal or better for SEO, and certainly easier on your pocketbook.

Although registering and using domain names containing the top targeted terms can sound like a wonderful idea, but it would be a mistake to assume domains can solve all problems. Even if no words are currently present in any part of your new domain name to be registered but you add quality links to that, top ranks would be achieved.

Using the keyword suggestion tool, figure out which one of the above mentioned words can deliver more traffic loads to your website and then stick to a new name containing that if available and then add links to your homepage or inner pages.

Since you have 2 keyword phrases ("learn quilting" and "quilting for fun") that you want to target.

How about you build up a page and make "learn quilting" as your primary keyword and make "quilting for fun" as your secondary keyword.

In this case, you can just integrate the primary keyword "learn quilting" into your domain name...

For title tag, you can integrate primary and if it's possible, the LSI / related keyword of the primary keyword into the title tag.

You can put your primary keyword and the secondary keyword into H1,H2....

It's also recommended to put Primary keyword at the beginning and end of the content and sprinkle secondary keyword a few times within your content.

In this way, you are letting search engine know that your content is based around the primary keyword ("learn quilting") while giving a chance for the secondary keyword ("quilting for fun") to rank in the search results.

it gave me some things to think about
    especially about sub-domains
I will have to explore that a bit.

You can only get the real EMD bonus for one of those, I would go with the one with the most searches. Having the keywords in the domain would help both though but having an EMD of either keyword will be much more helpful.
