Is 'Google' allowed in URL?

The ignorance in this thread is overwhelming.

NO you can not have "google" in your domain name, neither can you have "apple" or whatever other trade mark.

Google is one of those which will rigorously send lawyers after you. If you have a small site no one knows you MIGHT get by...but don't even attempt to have a bigger site with "google" in it, they WILL come after you...at the latest once your site hits a certain popularity. You would need to be very, very stupid to use any trademarked term in your site's name.

And STOP giving idiotic replies here if you don't know anything and especially stop giving wrong "legal advice".

Does anyone remember "googlecash.com" I'm sure Google closed him down.

Not a good idea to have any trademark in your domain. It will only be a matter of time until they will send their army of lawyers after you.

It is not acceptable that you have google word in the main domain name. But you can have the word in subdirectories of your domain. You will see many using the word google in their main domain name and later they may face legal issues.

No u dont use this word. goole not allowed this word. "IS" a stop word and this is blacklist in URL. so dont use in yr domain

Absolutely you can have ANY word in the domain as long as you can get it. I think the point of the OP is whether it's legal?

I wouldn't want to come up against the big Googlebot's team of lawyers ;-)

Google is a trademarked brand and anything that is trademarked, you are not allowed to use without proper licensing. Just like sony or microsoft etc...

Some do it, and it just means they're not caught yet. If caught, one will get a lawyers letter asking to hand over the domain to the main company.

Not worth the risk incorporating a huge company's brand into your domain...

I had the domain Adsensemakemoney.net, and they shut down the Adsense on it, but thankfully not my account. I am now staying away from the Google branding domains.

The sudden to change from "Yes, you can" to "absolutely not" was kind of funny hahah - Alright, thanks and that's what I thought about trademark terms, but I also thought about sites with google in their name that do exist like the one Carl Brown brought up... Yes you can buy a domain with any word in it

question is will it last? and will they sue/threaten you to take it down

the bigger the company, the larger the chances of them going after you

There is nothing illegal in registering a domain like that. Another question is that they have the right to file a claim and demand it to be handed over. At least with com-net-org and most of the local extensions also.

But! I'm also quite sure that there are some countries where you would be able to keep it. Something like googlesearch.cn or bestgoogle.ru might remain yours - depending on the local law that regulates those country domains.

Yeah the thing about those domains, is that there is nothing illegal
about it, but if you cybersquat, that is illegal.

But one has to put it into perspective. We always assume
people mean US laws, and those laws don't always cross
borders. We have signed "treaties," but those are not worth
whatever paper they are printed on.

China and many other countries ignore them. Remember the
fake apple stores?

And those companies must do something in the legal system
against you. Some do, some don't, some are successful, some
are not.

Just do a search for apple ipod and see the domains that pop
up.

Which brings up an interesting little tidbit. Google does
not like being a policeman. They do not readily remove
sites that break the laws, US or not. They don't
like that and they readily admit they most likely will
not. Interesting, because they will not allow any of
their other programs users (adwords, etc.) to break
these laws. At least most of the time.

The DMCA is a US law.

China has tried to get a grip on .cn, and now ****
has taken over for junk.

Demand letter. That's rich. Joel Comm has been using adsense secrets for
eons. I can't actually say whether the letter is real or not, but google
normally could care less. After all, read my above post. They hate
censorship, all forms.

Just do a search for adsense secrets. Man the domains are multiplying
like rabbits.

You cannot have a registered trademark in your domain name.

Like mentioned earlier, sure nobody is stopping you from buying a domain with the trademarked name in it. And odds are if your site is small time with less than 20 views a day, you might not get caught. But it is illegal and they can shut you down. So there really is no point. You are limiting your websites growth ability right from the beginning.:rolleyes:

I actually doubt that Google would contact the host or the registrar, much simpler for them and companies in this position to send a demand letter from their "attorney" which I bet is not from any attorney

99 percent of the people cave at this point and wet their pants and give up the domain for free

why would they actually pay a real attorney and file a real lawsuit if this is the case? Bet it would not happen unless it was a site saying GOOGLE SUCKS in the domain, or something, in which case the courts have held that THIS IS LEGAL.

WALMART SUCKS.COM has been sued by Walmart and Walmart lost that one
Court rules that Walmart has no right to tell the guy to take the site down, thats protected by freedom of speech
