I'm trying out a blog site and was looking to do this for as inexpensive as possible. I recently found free hosting through a company but is this a good idea to use free hosting? Is it better to pay for hosting for stability? Do you get faster load times by paying or is it all the same?

If you think for quality you should go for paid hosting like hostgator or bluehost

If you're serious about internet marketing no matter what your niche it is not very professional to go the free hosting way with all its downsides. Get paid hosting and fully control your website.

I use HostGator. I've got the "hatchling" plan which is something like $10/month and lets me host "unlimited" domains.

I have the same Hostgator plan, it does everything I need for hosting.

OP, If you are new to self hosting I strongly suggest Hostgator, they have a live 24/7 chat support, that has never failed me.

The chat support alone is what sold me when I fist started self hosting.

I used the chat support about 6-months ago when I F up one of my sites database (my own fault), they had my site back up & running in less than 15min., they walked me through every step I needed to fix the database.

      Hostgator support ROCKS!

BTW, no tickets at Hostgator, it's all instant live support!

right now i am using a company called 000webhosting. to upgrade is only like 5 dollars a month. but i was wondering if through your experience that it mattered. It doesn't put any ads on my page so it looks all the same and it 100gb a month of bandwith which i have no clue if tha'ts a lot or not!

^^Hit the nail on the head there^^

Hostgator is great about customer support,
their control panel is very user friendly, and has TONS of extras that you will not see anywhere else.

        They are priced very modestly!
I would recommend their baby plan, just because if you have more than one site you can put them all on that account! (plus if you only have one, you will have another soon enough, and you will just have to upgrade your account anyway!)

Also, i have been with hostgator since i bought my first site, and they have NEVER gone down for maintence!!!!

    Hi,
I wouldn't go with free hosting unless its part of a membership site or something.
You will often find free hosting comes with adverts being placed on your site which is not good for you.
Hosting is very inexpensive as others have pointed out.
I think you just have to go for it.
    Good luck.

I think paid hosting is better. You will have full control over your hosting.

You have not pay huge for your hosting. It is very little. It is about $4 to $7. Some times you may get lower than this amount.

If you're serious about building many sites that can be deployed at any time. I use VPS packages.

The best host I have found and have been using for 5 years is Wired Tree. I have used about 6 different VPS companies. Wired Tree I would rate a 9 out 10. The next best company was maybe a 6 out of 10. They have super support, that's the difference. Tickets answered in seconds.

Paid hosting is often faster than free one.

Tony, how much bandwidth and space do you need?

    Hostgator or Sitecloud these days.

Service from provider to provider changes from time to time, so in my mind there is no magic bullet.

For Seo Hosting i recommend H9, not because i get commission if someone clicks from my review, but because i use them for years and they are really good

Please don't even try to get started with free hosting, it will only cost you in the long run. Hosting today can be VERY cheap, i know some which charge $2 for unlimited hosting per month..and they have everything. And with that SEO Hosting i also only pay $19.95/month.

For the rest of my sites,i am hosting a zillion on one VPS from solarvps which cost me $60/month. Once you got a number of wordpress sites you WANT a VPS, take my word. Shared just doesnt cut it anymore.

Free hosting? Only if you don't care whether your site is available at any particular time. Everyone likes a deal, but as a web host for going on 16 years, I can tell you that hosting is one area where generally you get what you pay for.

I host my own sites, but I also use HostGator for non-money sites that need different class Cs than mine. They're a great start and you can always upgrade with them.

I use 1&1 hosting. Even though they don't have cpanel, I find that their prices on domain names and hosting is quite reasonable. Also I was able to host my wordpress site with them, although it took a little work to figure it out.

You tend to get what you pay for, so I would avoid the free host as you never know when the site might go down and there are other downsides with that.

Host Gator works well for me and as mentioned in a previous post they have great
    chat support.

Free hosting mostly comes with limited features, we can not install some of the third party script that require more features, so it's better to paid for your hosting, you can get a professional hosting for less than $10 / Month these day.
