Adsense zero clicks?...Help!

Just looking for some advice from experienced Adsense site people. I'm still pretty new to IM here but one of my main projects is an adsense content site.

I started with some keyword research and chose a niche in the self improvement category. Lots of good paying adwords, tons of keyword options. I initially wrote about 10 articles targeting main keywords (still working on ranking them). After a few weeks I was getting about 10 visits per day from long tails and click-throughs from my article marketing submissions.

Then I decided to put up the adsense. 3 days later I got my first click (woot). The following day, I got two clicks. My total income was 1.20 (yay). I was actually pretty excited about it so I began to double my efforts.

I focused on writing more keyword targeted pages, back-linking with article marketing and trying to include lots of LSI keywords per page. I was following Xfactors latest content site methods. A few weeks later, I had about 70 pages of keyword targeted well-written unique content and my traffic started improving.

So whats the problem?

Well...ever since those first 3 clicks, there has been nothing and I mean absolutely nothing. Not one click. It has been over a month since then. The site is about 2 1/2 months old. I'm getting about 20 visitors per day, my content went from 10 pages to 70 and still nothing. I've never heard of getting 0% ctr. My ad placement follows all the best methods advised in this and other forums. Large rectangle at top of post, skyscraper in sidebar, another block in mid of page. Colors matched to theme. What gives?

It is hard to stay motivated to crank out all this research and writing if I'm just going to watch that ctr sit at 0 eternally. I know the site is young and things take time but...bah! I also realize that my traffic is abismally low but it is growing slowly. I did however expect to see at least some small evidence that all this work would eventually pay off but nothing...

What the H3LL am I doing wrong here?

Anyone else have over 300 page views without a single click?

The thing about google adsense is that you have to reward your users
with some sort of action to the reason they landed on your page in the first place.

If they found your site on Google, more or less, you have a greater chance at
converting the traffic you get into adsense clicks because it's focused on
    content the user searched.

However, that's not the case at all times, if your content doesn't deliver what
was found on their keyword search string oryour content misled them in any way...

They will leave your site, you'll go on without a click.

Adsense works hand and hand with your traffic. If adsense ads don't pop-up
that appeal right for them to click, they won't proceed forward and click on it.
However, if the adsense ad matches your content and the user wants to
learn more about what the advertisement on adsense has to offer, they will
click it, you'll get a converting action, and you'll make money.

keep in mind, this is all starting with proper SEO and rankings on search engines.
That's one way, don't waste time with facebook wall posts or twitter
if you aren't really digging into your niche. Focus on seo! you'll see adsense results.

      Thanks Designerjack, for the encouragement.

I try to keep all my site content pretty tightly themed for the main niche. Most of what little traffic I do get does come from google but it is mostly from long tails. Maybe people are looking for something more specific than what they are finding on my site. All of my ads are showing selections that are focused very closely on my niche so thats good I guess.

I just thought that getting 3 clicks in 2 days followed by zero clicks over the next month was a little odd considering the amount of work I've done in the mean time. I guess I just need to keep adding content, keep backlinking and get my traffic up higher to see for sure.

On the other hand if I work for another couple months and get my content to over 200 pages and still see that big zero staring at me, it will very hard to convince myself that this niche will ever make anything. I will feel pretty dumb for doing all that work for nothing but I guess it is the only way to find out.

20 visitors per day is very low figure and also find out from where these traffic is coming. There is very simple formula to earn more money through adsense. "More Traffic More Money"

Adsense clicks are all about traffic. Traffic starts and ends with seo. What are you doing to keep your sites on page 1?

It's hard to tell without a link to your site. Maybe your placement isn't good enough, plus 20 visitors a day is very low

The day you start getting targeted niche forum traffic, I think you'll see that search engines are only a fraction of the possible traffic that is available to monetize with Adsense. I get 2,000 uniques from a single forum per day, from a niche forum I don't own. Once you establish yourself in the forums as a go to man you'll get good traffic for years. I've been getting this traffic for the last four years for free & it's very consistent.

I still do seo (a lot of it) but the forum traffic never goes away If my SERP position ever drops, because it has nothing to do with SERPs, just content that the niche forum is looking for.

      Paul Kramer,

My site is not yet ranking for its main keywords. My SEO consists of on-page optimization plus article marketing for backlinks. I write each page and then submit it to my site. Then I modify the title and submit it to EZA and a couple other top directories with backlinks to my main page and one other related internal page. I then use AMR to submit it to hundreds of other article directories for more backlinks.

I have about 600 backlinks showing for my main keyword in Yahoo site explorer but I have not moved from Google page 14-17 so not even close to first page yet. I also bought a 30,000 backlink package from another warrior. They were profile links and they didn't see to make any difference whatsoever.

All my actual traffic comes from obscure long tail searches due to the 70 pages of content. Still working on getting those main keywords to rank but not seeing any sustained progress so far.

I realize that I still have a long way to go traffic-wise but still... I've have over 800 page views since my last click and not a single click on ads...just seems strange.

OP, are you sure your Adsense Ads are related to your site?

    1) Use another computer (don't login to anything) & do a few non-related Google search for something like auto-insurance.

    2) After you do a few auto-insurance (not related to your site) visit those auto sites. Now, visit your site & look at the Adsense Ads on a few of your own sites pages, are they still related to your keyword, or are the Ads for auto-insurance (or similar unrelated Ads)?

      Yukon,

      Good idea.

I just checked this and I even took it a step further. I tried from another computer after clearing cashe and searching for a bunch of car insurance stuff. Then I went directly to my site and all my ads were relevant to my content. I checked several pages.

I also called a friend and asked them to check it out. They reported similar ads. So it looks like my ads are all still very relevant to my content.

In Adsense, Ive had about 850 page views since the last click with nothing. Am I being prematurely paranoid or is it possible that something is wrong?

Ok, so at least your 100% sure the Ads are related to your keywords.

You should have a few clicks with 850 page views, maybe not a lot but at least a few.

Next thing I would look at is, how busy is your sites theme? Do you have a lot of distractions going on (images, non Adsense Ads, theme images just to make the site look good).

Some of my highest converting Adsense sites are very simple in design.

          Yukon,

My site design is very simple. Each page is an Article. Large rectangle adsense block at top left of post with content wrapped around. Adsense 160x600 tower in top right of sidebar. Then about halfway through the content is another large rectangle. No images visible above the fold and the header is very simple solid color and small. No distractions that I can think of. Categories and other common WP sidebar stuff is below the fold. It is a basic clean looking WP theme.

I agree that 850 page views should have produced at least a click or two, this is why I'm concerned. I like to set goals low to begin. I certainly do not expect to be making much money at this point considering the low traffic but the zero clicks for 850 page views has me worried that something is wrong.

          @ Offershock:

I have thought of affiliate products, I will probably try it out once I get more traffic coming in.

Hi your site is still relative low and get very few visitors, it is very likely that those 20 odd people who visit your site daily for some reason or other choose not to click on your ads, so do not loose heart keep your work going and eventually you will start to earn, there are millions trying to earn online so the competition is tough, hence keep working...

There are 3 things that could affect your adsense clicks:

      1) position of your ads- make sure you use themes that are optimized for adsense
      2) quality of content - if your content is too good, people would not tend to click on the ads, because your content already answered their questions.
      3) relevancy of ads- make sure the ads on your site are relevant.

This is based on my experience. Try looking at those issues.

Focus on a few keywords and start some backlinking campaigns. Like others have said, search engine traffic is the best for adsense, traffic from forums and other sources won't click ads.

Glad my forum traffic didn't get that memo.

I've been cashing Adsense checks for 4-years, most of that $$ is from forum traffic. Never lets me down.

You need to have a massive amount of traffic to make a good income with adsense
however your CTR makes a big difference on how much you get paid per click you should also note there are better ways to monetize your site try Affiliate products instead .

Do you have Google Analytics setup & tracking the site?

GA will tell you how many page views per unique visit, this will let you know If they are landing on the page then leaving with very few site page views.

I get an average 6-7 page views for most of my sites per unique visit, which is good IMO.

Adsense is like anything else in IM, it takes a lot of testing, just keep track of what you've already tested, what worked & what didn't work.

I was going to say the same thing about GA. This will show you how long the people stay on your site and how many pages they view. If your getting 20 people that stay on your site for 0 seconds then you might need to change your content or site design. Also, people are people... you can take a horse to water but you can't make them click.

        Tony,

I do have analytics running. I check it obsessively. It shows the average pages per visitor at about 3.8 right now and average time on site is just under 5 minutes.

The problem is that I dont really know how accurate those numbers are because I'm always on my site updating and what not. My own visits are long and I tweak and view many pages. My visits are probably skewing the numbers quite a bit.

Guess I need to stay off the site for a while if I want to get an accurate idea of what visitors are doing.

I'm just hoping that if I continue to create content, and backlink, my traffic will eventually improve and maybe that ctr will start moving.

Anyone else ever had over 800 pageviews with no clicks? I really cannot imagine whats wrong. I've looked at a million adsense sites and mine looks pretty similar to many very large well ranking sites as far as ad placement and overall appearance. Nothing spammy or cheap looking going on.

Someone above mentioned that you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him click. I laughed. What if I lead about 800 horses to water? Shouldn't at least one of them take a drink??

I would love to think that my content was so awesome that visitors could not tear themselves away from it to click on ads but lets be realistic. That aint the case.

I would love to see an example of a real live adsense content site that actually performs. If any of you adsense masters want to PM me a link, I'll be ecstatic. Dont worry, I won't click your ads or try to jump into your niche. I have enough niche ideas to last me the rest of my life. I wouldn't be much competition anyway. Stuck on page 5 for a 3k search per month keyword on my other site. My competitor in the top spot has 3 pages of lame content and about 6 pr0 backlinks. But thats an issue for another thread.

      This is interesting.

I'm having the same problem with one of my sites.

      • It's a 4-month old website in the Health niche
      • It's now on the 4th page of Google for it's main keyword
      • I just added Adsense about a month ago
      • So far it has 3,000 + impressions (in 1 month)
      • CTR is < 1%
With my other sites, the CTRs are usually 5-10%.

      My suspicion :

Maybe because my site's rank is still mediocre, the ads
shown on my site are just not too interesting, especially
for US and Canadian visitors (the majority of my traffic
      comes from the 2 countries).

      Could that be a problem?

But since I'm not living in the US/Canada, I'm having a problem
to see what ads are actually showing on my site for US/Canada visitors...

      Anyone?
