automated commenting software annoys me

I know a bunch of people will probably get upset at this...BUT...
as a blogger, I get completely annoyed by automated comments. They are marked as "unapproved" and the IMers who send them lose a backlink.
Look, I am happy to give you a backlink if you can take three minutes to skim over a post and provide an intelligent, relevant response.
If not...sorry. It's spam to me, and it will never appear on my blog.
Yes, it takes a little longer to actually navigate to a blog and skim over a post and write an individual comment for each blog. But you know what? I learn new things doing this, and it challenges my intellect. I gain new dendrite connections. (Read: I get a little bit smarter.)
