That's a question that could easily take 20-30 pages of an ebook to answer. But I'll narrow the answer to what I think you're asking:

The general format for an html backlink is this:

    <a href="http://nameofyoursite.com">Your Anchor Text</a>

So if your website keywords were 'Dog Training', and your site was Puppydogtrainingforbeginners.com - the article link would look like this:

For more tips on <a href="http://puppydogtrainingforbeginners.com">Dog Training</a>, feel free to visit my site!

    Or something similar...

This is just the beginning answer to your question, but hopefully you can be more specific, and others will jump in to help.

    Hi Elliott,

This is true for Wordpress too.

External links are links anyone makes on their own website/blog pointing their readers to your site. For example if you write articles, and publish them at Ezinearticles or other article directories, and you put a link to your website in the resource box (bottom) of the articles, that link becomes a backlink to your site when someone publishes your article on their site and includes your resource box.

If someone at another site or blog likes your blog and tells their readers about your site, when the site owner says, "Go read Elliott's blog at http://www.elliotswaycoolblog(dot)com that creates a backlink.

The fact that I have a website listed in my sig here at the warrior forum creates a backlink to that site every time I post here. If you post helpful information in other forums, and that forum permits the use of sigs, then each post will give you a backlink.

You also create internal backlinks by creating additional pages in your website. Some of the top ranking sites have thousands of additional pages within the site, pointing back to the home page. Every article you submit to an article directory is an article that you should post as an additional page to your site.

      Don,

you would be better off if you anchor your link with a keyword. Unanchored text links are better then no links, but anchored is better.

Do as Khadaji said , i think there is'nt much more to add but i'll try to explain more in details :

you put that piece of code : <a href="your website link here">the key word or phrase you want your link to show as</a>

in your post/article and it will show as a Hyperlink once you post it

          hope this make sense

If you're just trying to figure it out, go over to Wordpress.com, or Blogger.com, or some similar Web 2.0 site that allows you to put up a website for free... then you can play with this until you see it working ... just follow the code I gave, and be sure that your 'editor' that your using is in "HTML" mode.

In fact, this is a good way to 'play' around with HTML (and do it for free!) ... surprisingly, there's really not a whole lot you need to learn about HTML to do most common tasks.

In fact, learning to post a clickable link is as far as many people ever go in HTML.

In articles all you have to do is to create keywords or anchor text and put links on it directly to your site. Some also uses resource box.

My first website was put together back in 2001, and it took a little over 6 months of work to hand code a site with about 50 pages. I learned HTML by doing it.

Here I am, years later, and yes, I'll occasionally pop in an <h1> tag, but I'd rather pick a good theme that does it. I will sometimes <p> </p> up my text, but again, most decent editors will fix it for you.

I even put in an occasional handcoded HTML link, not because the editor won't do it, but because I can rel="nofollow" it.

Honestly, all those years of coding an HTML site by hand was experience I wouldn't willingly give up, but I'm just a little envious that you really don't need it today... get yourself a decent editor, and let the editor do the work...

And everything you want to know how to do is just a Google search away... no need to break out my many books on HTML... (of which I have quite a few!)

    Times are good!

Learn how to make a clickable link nowadays, and that's really all you ever need to learn!
