Redirecting exact match domain names

Has anyone tried this as a strategy? For example if I'm trying to rank for the keyword "cheap blue widgets" for my widgets site and I am able to register the domain, "cheapbluewidgets.com", can I redirect that domain to my "cheap blue widgets" money page on my main site and hope to rank reasonably well for it?

I don't think you should redirect but instead make a simple html page or blog that links back to your original page.
